I checked and since 1990 the Braves have won the division 20 freaking times. I believe the Mets have 5 since 1990. I so hate them and their darn chop chant. It's such a well run team which makes me even more angry. :P

WTF? Padres and Phillies must play all 3 games on the road. There's the Mets' HUGE advantage for winning 100 games.

Or you win your division and still have to win a 3-game series to play in the division round.

Ya the Cardinals should be the ones bitching. Teams with the harder division get screwed by the new format. Mets just needed to not get swept by the Cubs at home. ;)

In 2018 I was dying for the Yankees to get bounced in the 1 game WC game after winning 101 games. But they won the WC game. :(

But lost to the Red Sox in the divisional round. :)

I don't even know if I'll watch the Mets games this weekend. I don't know if I can mentally take watching them crash and burn in the WC. I mean I certainly think they can win, but after watching they not be able to close it out last weekend... Ugh

Ah, you gotta watch. If it helps, the 2021 Red Sox, after a super hot first half of the season, *barely* sqeaked into the playoffs (including being down 4-0 or 5-0 to the Nationals in game 162 which would've forced them to a tiebreaker for the last playoff spot). And then after that they suddenly remembered how to play baseball and made it to within 2 wins of the World Series. So you never know.

Plus, your expectations now are so low that even one win will probably feel good.

The Giants have won 3 World Series in the last 13 seasons. You don't get to claim torture.

Indeed. It's sort of funny in that I saw on FB a post noting that the Red Sox have 5 last place division finishes in the last 11 years, which is the most of any AL East team. But at the same time, they also have two world series titles in that same time frame.

I don't totally get why it's so feast or famine sometimes, but you happily take the last place finishes if you get titles mixed in.

Maybe for the first title, but after that you can't complain about torture. Once the Cubs won in 2016, I wasn't complaining about the torture of them not making it all the way back in the following years, because I always had the moment of glory to fall back on and ease the pain. If the Cubs had won 3 titles in 5 years? I'd still be perma-smiling no matter how rough the next 10 years were.

Cardinals MELTDOWN in the ninth. They are now 93 - 1 in the playoffs when leading by 2 or more runs after 8 innings.

I wonder what the odds were on a prop bet that the Padres, going against Scherzer, would score the most runs of any team on Friday. I used to hate Yu Darvish when he was on the Rangers and gave the Angels fits, now he is the man. Next up is Blake Snell who has been inconsistent all year. Time to earn that paycheck.

I think the Padres have it locked up. The Mets have been horrible against lefties all year. Sucks, but that's what happens when you don't win the division and you have 38 year old aces. Max was flipping horrible.

On the plus side, Cardinals are done.

Why is the Mets pitcher saying he can't hear the pitch selection?

1. Don't they use finger signs?

2. If the catcher verbalizes, couldn't the batter hear it too?

Stupid new pitchcom system. Catcher pushes a button and plays on a headset in the pitcher's hat.

Padres advance to the NLDS on a one hitter!

Chargers get outplayed by Browns but win anyway.

Packers lay an egg vs. Giants in London.

I watched the ending with my son, and after Alvarez hit it he was like "they shouldn't have taken the closer out."

Benefit of hindsight and all that, but yeah.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Dodgers coronation. After 5 straight road games the Padres are in a 3 game series with home field advantage. Not saying they are going to win, but this is a dream scenario for a wild card team.

I'm already dreading a Yankees - Astros ALCS.

I think the Mariners have a better shot at upsetting the Astros than the Guardians do of the Yankees, but I'm not super optimistic about either.

Especially after a loss.

Mariners are toast. Normally I would take glee in the Angels' division rival falling flat, but the Astros are also division rivals and I invoke the heat of a thousand suns.
