I think it may be to spread school shootings around so people grasp what a problem school shootings are.

Oh now this horseshit. They don't have any ideas! This is childish. BIden had an entire platform for it. There have been multiple attempts to push forward frameworks. Before you next prove Mark Twain right again how about you at least do the bare minimum for yourself. Then think out the next step which is ask yourself why we never hear about anything except for these childish stunts.

I think the disconnect is in understanding how this happened. These people (including infants) were tricked into relocating thousands of miles away with the promise of jobs and shelter. Nothing was arranged; nothing was coordinated. They were literally shuffled onto a bus and dropped off in residential areas.

"Ultimate best interests" doesn't even begin to enter the conversation here. This was and continues to be a political stunt. It's beyond gross and I genuinely hope DeSantis' legacy hangs on this inhumane act.

Greg Abbott is already a human sack of crap; his legacy is already cemented.

Also, the more racist DHS elements forged destinations for these folks at random shelters and set up fake appointments for them to generate the paperwork to shuttle them. None of these people ended up at those locations. But yeah - "best interests". It's preposterous to think that this was in good faith in any way.

There's no disconnect. They know exactly what they're doing. Nobody's buying the good samaritan act.

+1

The use of human beings as tools for a political stunt is dehumanizing and horrid. But it's also setting a dangerous new level in partisan pettiness. What's next?
A letter to the editor of the Tampa Bay Times suggested that perhaps, with cold weather coming on, northern states should start busing their homeless populations to Florida, where the weather is nice.
They'll just send them to California.
I remember that Palm Springs used to round up homeless people and bus them like 50 miles away. They would usually return by the next day for rinse and repeat. Have no idea if this is still happening.
The other letter writers were pissed off that Desantis found $12 million to fund his stunt but refuses to give raises to FL teachers.

And what exactly is the solution the Dems have come up with in the 2+ years of Biden being in charge?
Biden's plan was to attack the root causes of emigration in Central and South America: corruption, gang violence, poverty...it was a logical idea, insofar as ordinary people don't WANT to flee their homes unless they have no other choice. Unfortunately, the authoritarian regimes driving all that didn't want to reform, and that effort has plainly failed. His other plan was to hand it off to Harris, I guess to deflect blame?

IDK what Plan B might be, but they're going to have to come up with one since Plan A failed and Dems and Reps are incapable of working together on real immigration reform.

FWIW my comment was not directed toward anyone in particular (does it matter?).

I think you both (or more) were talking about solutions to the immigration problem (or lack thereof) and this particular act has absolutely nothing to do with that. IMO. It’s lib rage/tears porn for the MAGATs.

I also agree with whoever mentioned upthread that considering the systemic problems we have as a country right now…immigration pales in comparison.

Don’t remember the actual numbers, but I’ve seen them before: the financial burden, job loss, or whatever boogeyman problem Fox News loves to peddle about immigration are GREATLY exaggerated.

The core problem on immigration is that it's a situation where demand for immigration to the United States vastly exceeds the supply of legal immigration spots. Artificially restricting the supply of immigration spots creates a black market for immigration, as that type of thing tends to do. Improving conditions in home countries will help, but that's something that's not really within our control - we can help, but only have limited control on the outcome.

The only fix that's really within our control is the same response to other black markets - legalize and regulate it. Vastly increase the number of legal immigration spots, create guest worker programs that will facilitate workers coming back and forth seasonally as they used to do before we made that impossible, and stuff like that. But that's politically radioactive.

I do kind of blame the current administration for not getting these sorts of facts out more. Grandpa Joe spoke the truth about fascism and MAGA, and that went over reasonably well. How about being your own hype man like Cheetolino used to do, and calling the MAGAts out for what they're doing with these immigrants?

Please show me where I defend it (I know you wont/cant).
My first post pertaining to this was to show how the cities that claimed to welcome migrants came up woefully short when actually faced with doing it.

Then I brought up that maybe, just maybe, the migrants would end up in a better situation as a result of being moved from states that dont want them or cant support them, to states that claimed they do want and can support them.

Then I posted one instance of that.

You guys make me laugh sometimes. But keep doing you.

This thread is 3 pages long.
I have 14 posts in it.
Not that hard to show where I 'defended" what Texas and Florida are doing.
Unless....of course....I didnt/dont.

Sigh.......
Again.....please, please take 90 seconds to go back and point out 1, just 1, instance where I argued with anyone about the morality of the act of shipping the migrants out of 1 state to another vs arguing about the ineptitude of the "welcoming" states they were sent to, and all of the perspectives of what you all think I think.

Every single argumentative response to people pointing out this was cruel and inhumane should suffice.

And then there’s statements like this:
So they are better off in Massachusetts then? Thanks for proving my point.

Show me where you previously comdemned the migrants being bussed around like cattle for a political stunt. Even your very recent “come to Jesus” moment was quantified with a “prove I defended it!” and not a “it was wrong”.

It’s rude, asshole behavior. I would expect better from my children. But I’m trying to make the world a better place by not raising selfish, entitled dickheads.

No. I posted a video of 1 person saying THEY were better off because of being moved from a place that didnt/doesnt afford them opportunity to a state that may/did.

Not defending or endorsing anything.
