He respects Russia's saying when it comes to attacking sovereign nations. "Let us Alone." He even wants to establish a Floridan Military unit for such occasions to protect Florida's territorial interests. It started with Disney. Following TFG's lead, he will extend this to Alabama.
They were already anti UN before TFG, during his rule, they became anti NATO, anti European Socialism, and pro Russia (forgiving and forgetting that whole authoritarian communist thing)malchior wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 11:09 amDeSantis is following on this - not leading. Capitalism tries for a delicate balance: It attempts to work things out so that everyone gets just enough stuff to keep them from getting violent and trying to take other people’s stuff.

Remember it’s ok for trump and desantis to send in federal troops to the insurrectionist blue states in order to preserve freedom but state defence forces are necessary to protect the freedom states from being invaded by Biden and his army of drag queen satanists.

The problem is those Karen’s can point to things like this https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64965277 which is equally insane.
San Francisco could become the first major US city to fund reparations, under a plan that would award $5m (£4m) to each eligible black resident.
A city-appointed panel also suggests guaranteed annual incomes of $97,000 for qualifying recipients and homes in San Francisco for $1 a family.
I’m all for equally but to give millions to individuals rather than create broad meaningful solutions makes these proposals incredibly disappointing.
The disparity in policy is completely at odds with reality and what people want. The issue for the democrats is they will be associated with things like this while de santis can say “it’s a matter for them” for his governments excesses and get away with it.

Re: All Things DeSantis
The amount of stuff he's just casually try to pass is is insane:
But that's not all:Senate Bill 1718, part of Desantis’s broad repressive legislative agenda this year, targets not just undocumented people but also anyone associated with them. The bill, which is likely to pass the Republican-controlled state legislature, criminalizes anyone who transports an undocumented person “into or within this state.” In other words, anyone—co-worker, friend, neighbor, classmate—giving a simple ride to someone they know or care about who is undocumented would be guilty of a third-degree felony.
The bill also criminalizes anyone who “conceals, harbors, or shields” (or “attempts” to do so) an undocumented person in “any place within this state.” Nearly 4 percent of Floridians are undocumented. The bill text, reading like an edict issued in Margaret Peterson Haddix’s Shadow Children series, foments fear about these hundreds of thousands of people. It isn’t hard to imagine law enforcement agencies conflating a house party or simple afternoon cup of tea with a secret migrant-harboring operation.
Under the framework, any person with a prior conviction who commits the “crime” of hosting an undocumented person would be liable to an even higher second-degree felony.
If the bill is passed into law, Florida would also refuse to recognize any out-of-state licenses issued to undocumented people. Authorities would be directed to take DNA samples from undocumented people who are booked into jails or detention facilities per orders from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Finally, the bill orders Medicaid-accepting hospitals to ask patients to indicate their citizenship status. Ostensibly meant as a cost-tracker for undocumented patient care, the bill reads that the question must be accompanied with an assurance that the patient’s response will not affect care or result in a report to immigration authorities. However, given the extremity of the rest of the bill, even with regard to criminalizing people who host undocumented people in “any place,” the assurance does not welcome complete trust.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

DeSantis knows all of that is just political theater, but with the legislature in his pocket, and he'll just ignore them if they balk (like the redistricting), he can pass anything he wants so he's on Fox News all the time. Fox News is basically his presidential campaign organ now. Most of the stuff he passed will be challenged, but in the meanwhile he's the head of MAGA unless Trump runs again.

Look at how he’s gone after Disney- once he is president he can Modi and maybe even Putin his way through the mainstream news channels through “tax audits”, arresting people for treason, “investigating” family members, removing citizenship while overseas on holiday and other malfeasances.
And think how much fun he’ll have with the late night hosts. No wonder James Corden is going back to the Uk. Perhaps so he can be this guy.

News flash - Trump *is* running again. Trump is head of MAGA. DeSantis is chasing Trump and every one of these moves is a desperate attempt to take over MAGA with Fox's help. DeSantis is mostly hoping for Trump to 1) drop dead and/or 2) get indicted. He probably hopes more for the former because that actually gets Trump out of the race.Kasey Chang wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 1:27 amMost of the stuff he passed will be challenged, but in the meanwhile he's the head of MAGA unless Trump runs again.

It is true that DeSantis's main assets at this point is the tight GOP control of Florida combined with very DeSantis-friendly people in the conservative media. But I still don't totally understand how he's going to run as Trump Lite against Trump himself.

Evanston Illinois has restorative housing "reparations" that targets known issues.waitingtoconnect wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 5:08 pm The problem is those Karen’s can point to things like this https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64965277 which is equally insane.

The disparity in policy is completely at odds with reality and what people want. The issue for the democrats is they will be associated with things like this while de santis can say “it’s a matter for them” for his governments excesses and get away with it.
The first reparations initiative developed by the City of Evanston is the Restorative Housing Program. The Program acknowledges the harm caused to African-American/Black Evanston residents due to discriminatory housing policies and practices and inaction on the part of the City from 1919-1969. The goal of the Program is to:
Revitalize, preserve and stabilize Black/African-American owner-occupied homes in Evanston
Increase homeownership and build the wealth of Black/African-American residents;
Build intergenerational equity amongst Black/African-American residents
Improve the retention rate of Black/African-American homeowners in the City of Evanston
Even then it's not without problems.
Eleanor Swope, who would have been 85 this February, died Nov. 1, 2022, of a heart attack. She’s the seventh ancestor applicant who has died before their selection number for Evanston’s restorative housing reparations grant was called.
...
The committee voted March 2 to give cash payments, for the first time, to the final two ancestors selected among the first 16 recipients, because they aren’t homeowners, don’t plan to purchase a home and lack direct descendants to whom they could pass on the grants. The city doesn’t have a date for when those two ancestors will receive their grants.
Because Swope’s number was never called, her family isn’t entitled to her reparations grant, and the survivors of the other six deceased ancestors are in the same situation, said city Corporation Counsel Nicholas Cummings.

Restoring people who were wronged by the city is appropriate as those actions were illegal or immoral but the San Fransisco proposal isn’t well thought out in my opinion and isn’t presented well at all. Nor will it give equality - it’s just virtue signalling not tackling racism at its core. It’s just fodder for the far right.LawBeefaroni wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 10:35 amEvanston Illinois has restorative housing "reparations" that targets known issues.waitingtoconnect wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 5:08 pm The problem is those Karen’s can point to things like this https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64965277 which is equally insane.

The left needs to create a new deal type arrangement that lifts up every one and draws a line under the past by opening up opportunities for a future (or a security if in old age) to people who have been dealt with unjustly. It won’t be perfect but it’s the only way to beat trump and de santis.

Re: All Things DeSantis
Meanwhile, cartoon villains are shaking their heads:
Of note:As Florida Republicans are introducing and advancing a wave of bills on gender and diversity that are likely to be signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), one GOP lawmaker acknowledged this week that his proposed sexual health bill would ban girls from talking about their menstrual cycles in school.
...
“So if little girls experience their menstrual cycle in fifth grade or fourth grade, will that prohibit conversations from them since they are in the grade lower than sixth grade?” [State Rep] Gantt asked.
[State Rep] McClain responded, “It would.”
The GOP lawmaker representing Ocala, Fla., later clarified that it “would not be the intent” of the bill to punish girls if they came to teachers with questions or concerns about their menstrual cycle, adding that he’d be “amenable” to amendments if they were to come up. The bill ended up passing, 13-5, on Wednesday in a party-line vote, as GOP legislators make up a supermajority in the chamber.
...
Restricting girls from talking about their periods in school is not the only item in McClain’s bill, which was introduced last month. The bill calls for schools to teach how “sex is determined by biology and reproductive function at birth” and “these reproductive roles are binary, stable, and unchangeable.” Part of the proposed legislation would require that the Florida Education Department approve all education materials used in sexual health. It would also give parents the right to limit the kinds of library books their children can check out.

As an actual Midwesterner, fuck that transparent patronizing bullshit.
One thing that is interesting, before his book deal his net worth was estimated at under $500K (with $20K in student loan debt, has he weighed in on that topic?). He'll almost certainly come out of this at least 5 to 10 times richer.
