That is such a tough question. "Best?" This word, it means too many things! It's hard to separate 'good song' from 'song for a show that I loved as a kid', from 'song from a show that had an impact on me', from 'song from a show that I've been watching recently and keeps getting stuck in my head.'

In fact, 'Best' is so hard for me to narrow down that I'll just do the opposite and post the worst.

Can someone tell me why in the wide, wide world of sports this ridiculous comedy show theme song was the first one I thought of too when I saw the topic?

I LOVE that theme. Sue me. I also love the one they used in the tv commercials leading up to it.

Yeah, I'm having trouble separating "nostalgia" from "best" on this one. Some of the best modern ones (both music and animation-wise) are Ramin Djawadi's Game of Thrones and Westworld. I liked how Babylon 5's theme changed each season. They were each epic excepting the first one. (Or the second? I forget. One of them didn't move me quite as much as the others.)

This was one of my favourites growing up:

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

So far, everyone is wrong...

Edit... I see it now in Daehawk's mass dump of theme songs. But still, this gets my vote.

The Cowboy Bebop opening does seem to have influenced some of my other favorites.

The greatest TV show ever also has the greatest theme tune ever. The original version is the creepiest. I have loved all of the current iterations of it since it returned. But for nostalgic reasons to please my inner 8 year old, I include the early 80's version here.

Almost forgot. Though it sounds much more worse than I remember it. Like I remember it how more modern synthesizers would play it today.

This has always been one of my favourites. I feel that it's not just a good theme song, but a good song overall, one which really hits home the theme of the show.

This is the theme that played at the start of the tv show Grizzly Adams. Such a calming serene melody.

My wife knew that jingle all her life but couldn't remember the show it went to. I finally found it for her a couple years before her death. She loved it.

I remember bit of the jingle but never knew the show. I have no idea how the jingle got in my head. It must have been used by something else in montage or ad or something years later.

Twas a silly show, but I was 9. Gemini astronauts go back in time and meet cavemen -- what's not to like?

Here's another obscure one.
