I am not, for the first time in a while, looking forward to warmer weather. I've enjoyed this winter, and another mid-climate-change Indiana summer doesn't have a lot of appeal.

Yeah, summer was my favorite season for most of my life. That started to change about 10 years ago. Now I don't exactly dread it, but I don't look forward to it either.

The climate models say that Boston will have North Carolina's climate by 2070. That sounds pleasant.

Except that North Carolina will probably have Texas's climate!

IIRC, NC will have Georgia's climate, and the Deep South will border on uninhabitable as far as outdoor activities go.

Over here we have brutal winters and very hot summers, something many may not realize. We get both ends of the extremes. We had a tease of an early Spring last week where it was really sunny and everything was melting, but this week we've had a cold snap with high windchill.

We are sitting through a period of totally normal Tornado warnings in NJ February. I'm wondering if that's happened anytime in recorded weather history here.

Our normal average right now is about 75degF. This is the outlook for the next nine days

High temps, no rain and dry air, the lawns are shriveling up and the trees are confused as hell, pollen is off the charts. Meanwhile, the lizards around my house are loving the warm concrete and my pool, which normally this time of year is barely reaching seventy, is up to eighty-two degrees :D

Our winter outlook has us much warmer than normal into the deep reds. This is this week. That 82 will break a very old 80 high. Our normal end of Feb temps should be mid 50s. Lows probably 30s to 40s.

Im finding it tough to sleep. i am using a fan trying to save money by not using my ac in Feb.

We've had 23 inches of snow in the last 12 hours, and it's still coming down very heavy.

Not often a snowstorm can bring Salt Lake to a complete shutdown, but this one has done it.

We're dodging the big storm here. It's going to be unpleasant for a couple of days (mostly rain here, some sleet) and then a day or two with highs below freezing, but that's still mild for February in New England.

For contrast, this is my house as seen from the street eight years ago today.

Out here in the 'burbs we got maybe 3". I'm seeing ports from folks on Reddit getting 8" in Portland. Seeing reports of folks stuck on gridlocked freeways for hours.

When I checked the forecast this morning at least one channel was predicting no snow at all. They were off a bit.

Days like today make me appreciate my 5 minute commute.

We had freezing rain all day yesterday and all day yesterday my power was flakey. I assumed it was the power feed to my house and ice but this morning my FB feed is full of people in the tricounty area who had flakey power yesterday. I can't find any news on this but it sure doesn't feel like a widespread coincidence.

Did find this

I looked again at my average for this time of year...59/36 ....yesterday was 82....last night was 65....and today its raining and 82 again. I hate the cold but I also dont want spring and summer in my late winter. Id much prefer the average or a little higher..not this high.

Final tally for us. Portland got more like 11" and some folks were trapped in unmoving traffic on the freeway for 12+ hours. Today it's only going to get to 32 and most streets are compressed snow/ice. Things won't improve much until it warms on Saturday.

I was supposed to go to a brewfest with some friends on Friday but looks like that's out. :(

On the upside I'm working from home and we still have working power and internet.

Heh, I took an almost identical picture yesterday. This was when the snow was just under 23" in the front yard. We ended up at just over 24"

We were at New Smyrna Beach this afternoon and I saw these water tube barriers put up so that the beach sand can be replenished and the dunes filled in. The damage was from Hurricanes Ian and Nicole.

Tomorrow they are predicting 8" of snow.

Morning update has changed our winds to up to 40 mph sustained and 60 mph gusts. Thats worrisome.

Take a look at the national radar.

You are making a big deal out of what you are getting compared with the real storm to your north east, it would seem.

Took me shy of two hours to make my 40 minute drive from redruns after gaming. It's been quite a while since roads have been this bad. The prediction is about 8' before morning. We've already got 7 of them and this is supposed to go for another 2.4 hours, so I think we're going to blow past that.

Yeah, we got approximately no millimeters (much less inches) of snow. It's funny reading today's comments on a local news article about Joliet schools announcing yesterday that they are pre-emptively closing schools due to the forecast.

Even if the worst occurred, it would have been business as usual when I was a kid.

Unless the rain/snow line changes, this is another storm that's barely going to graze me, although it will be significant just a wee bit to the north and west. I left my car in the driveway overnight in hopes of getting a free wash because it's getting mighty dusty in the garage.

Up to now we've had under a foot of snow all year, and I haven't even needed my shovel once, much less the snowblower, which is still gassed up and plugged in with no place to go.

This is not a complaint. :)

I shoveled exactly once -- I needed the exercise. We've had very little significant snow falls this year, and most melted within a day or two. I think the kids managed to go sledding once.

There is probably a foot of snow out there this morning. It's gonna be 43 today and 40 with rain tomorrow. That snow is already crazy heavy snow. I'ma see how much melts unless 90+% of my neighbors shovel. My snow blower cant take this much heavy snow and I my back can't take the shovel.

Got out and shoveled the walk and just enough of the drive to to the front step as well as the front step itself for mailman. That might have been the heaviest snow I ever shoveled short of shoveling ice. That five minutes of work just wiped me out for the day and I still have grocery shopping and then filling in my 10 to 12 thousand steps to do today. (not leaving the house or doing much of anything yesterday led to me pacing for a couple of hours to my 10,000 steps in. Many say the benefits of 10,000 steps are a myth but I have noticing my health slowly improving and it's helping me to drop my weight without dangerous crash dieting. Maybe one day I can start flexibility and strength training. The steps give me hope.)

I have been trying to get three to four miles a day religiously since I started logging my daily health routines in a commitment to lose weight as part of getting "better". I had been on again off again, with any little thing letting me off the hook until mid January but I've hit 10k steps every day and 12k+ the vast majority since then. Losing weight is making everything easier and everything getting easier is making it easier to stay active as part of my weight loss goal. I never could have made this commitment while working and took me nearly a year off to even get to this point.

On topic, we broke 50 today. Most of the shoveling I did ended up being unnecessary. Hopefully Winter 2022-23 is going.

I made it out to the curb today with my trashcan.
Yesterday I made it out to my car and went to a hamburger place. First time I've left the yard in two months. You start to forget how to drive if that's how often you get out.
Just went out then cause I needed to start the car.

I'm not that bad since first year and a half of COVID. But I drive on average less than 3,000 miles a year now. It costs me $1200 a year for PLPD to insure my car. Insurance costs me $.40 a mile to drive. Gas costs me about $.085 per mile even.
