The Delapnegated 2023 Weight Loss Thread

Post by Sudy »

Getting the jump on Isg. I don't care if it's still 2022! I don't care about the rules!

Where's everyone starting? Where's everyone want to go this year?

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

I did OK in 2022 from a working out perspective (OK, not great). However, I wound up weight-wise right back where I started. And I'm finally getting it through my thick skull that I can't work out enough to offset bad eating.

So my goal for 2023 is to separate exercise from weight loss. The exercise has been great - it's kept my bloodwork great, I passed my physical with flying colors. So it's still essential, it keeps me feeling good, it keeps my stress down. I will absolutely continue running and rowing. But I have to find a way to no longer use it as an excuse for just eating whatever the hell I want.

And I want to wait until tomorrow morning to close the books on this year, hit my favorite pizza buffet, and then I'll set my bar on Sunday morning.

As of this morning I had returned to baseline after last week's spike, but I'm sure to spike again this weekend after the massive brunch I had today. I'll close out '22 on Monday or Tuesday.

2022 saw me start at 206 and end at 207, staying within a 5 pound window (205 to 209 lbs) the entire year.

I’ll hope (again) that the 500+ running miles will get me down to 200 or under, but not holding my breath.

I did good last year (for me.). Lost (at least) 30 lbs, bringing me down to 242 lbs. my goal is another 30 this year, if that’s at all possible. It will certainly mean upping my exercise and dropping some more foods. But I’m feeling way better (back and knees) than at the beginning of ‘22.

Thirty pounds is great. I've lost about ten but only because I caught a cold and haven't felt like eating much.

I'm going to the Philippines this summer for a month, and it behooves me to have a "beach body" by then. Sadly, driving a car all day does not lend one towards weight loss, even if I go several days at a time without eating anything.

I don't even know what I ended 2022 at since we don't have a working scale right now. At most 87 kilos since I did make the scale work yesterday briefly but I was fully dressed at the time and all of my other weights were right before showering. Not quite down to my goal of 85 but I'll accept it since the arbitrary end point comes right after a week of eating and drinking with family!

I'll officially start 2023 later but fixing the scale is a low priority until after we move in early Feb.

I gotta find the scale.

This year will be a challenge -- I sit on my ass and drive all day (15 hours today). I'm only eating once per day, but that's still too much apparently. It would behoove me to be less enormous when we go to the Philippines in June.

In August 2020 i bought a scale after not having one for years. I weighed in at X...
In April 2021 I weighed in at X - 13.
On Jan 2, 2023 I weighed in at.... X.

Indicated bodyfat for those weigh-ins, for my own curiosity
8/2020 - 17.0%
4/2021 - 14.1%
1/2023 - 17.3%

Huh. I guess the 6 months of working out and 30% increase in my gamified strength score didn't impress the Renpho app's body fat measurements.

I look and feel better and my BMI is a bit closer to underweight than to over so I'll take it.

Thanks for reading, maybe see you next year.

I have to do it for reals this year. My license from spring 2018 says 250. I am currently bouncing between 215 and 220. But I have yet to stay serious about exercise. I have a rowing machine on order, I think that will help. Because my current exercise choices all aggravate my knee so much.

Serious question, but how much high octane beer are you still consuming even if you're eating only once per day? The calorie counts on those things are massive, and I once lost 5 pounds in a month without making any other changes than simply not drinking alcohol.

I lost 4.9 lbs overnight by virtue of fasting for 24 hours. I'm sure they'll be back in time for next week's weigh-in, but I was tickled to see that I hit my annual goal this morning. :)

Indeed. The AAR cited "excellent visibility" because I was completely empty, man. By this morning I wasn't even passing water anymore.

I got food poisoning once and I could set a timer to my regular, hourly trips to the bathroom when I was awake. I lost 5 pounds in a day from that, too, and probably would have been clean enough for a colonoscopy myself.

Not looking forward to my first one of those in three years.

Started an intermittent fasting routine yesterday.
The plan right now allows for a single eight hour window in which to eat.
I've set my window from 5am to 1pm which will allow me to eat breakfast and lunch but also, more importantly, to drink my flavored coffee in the morning.

First day went well. Will see how this progresses.

I am up to 264.5 today. I decided to download "lose it" to my phone and start tracking calorie consumption again. Once I get an understanding of where I'm at, I'm sure I'll start restricting again. Consistent light exercise did nothing for weight control, so diet change it will have to be. Not sure when I move from monitoring to controlling but I hope it's soon. I told "lose it" to my on the crazy slow calorie counting to 185. It says I can eat about 2700 calories a day and lose the weight in about three years. I'd be OK with that but I ate normally yesterday and only had about 2400 calories, which suggests my body is comfortable with 2400 and some days a lot less and other days embarrassingly amounts more, but again, for now Ima just track what I eat and then get to the idea of eating better later, once I have a real grasp of what I've fell in to.

I'm hoping to get some sort of fitness equipment, probably cheaply resold from a good will, once everyone has decided their new years resolutions are taking up too much real estate in their homes for the year.

Rowing machine arrived. I got a low end model, no bells or whistles. I like it cause its quiet, and folds up. The treadmill was hurting my knees, and this machine does stuff for other muscles , like the belly and arms also. Its very low impact. I did 15 minutes the first day, and I know I got a workout because I feel sore, but I don't feel like I got hit by a truck or chased by zombies, it was almost relaxing, zenlike.

For those looking for an easy weight loss boost check out early time restricted feeding. some great videos on YouTube. Basically new studies show that Intermittent Fasting and eating early are the most effective means of IF. They have also found that if you are doing IF varying when you are fasting is also boosts effectiveness.

Still no idea how I continue to lose. Didn't eat great around the holidays, and COVID has been a mixed bag of not eating during the worst few days and eating crappy delivery many of the other ones. No exercise at all recently... haven't even left the house in nearly two weeks for isolation reasons. I presume weight loss continues to primarily be the result of having few sugar drinks anymore.

Plan to pick up some resistance bands as soon as I'm feeling up to reintroducing exercise.

I just bought some yesterday! I'm not using them yet. I did, however, set up a spot in my living room to do some more aerobic activity via guided youtube. I've seen some "cheap" new stationary bikes, so I'm hoping for some very cheap resales soon. Then I can just stream TV. :D

I started tracking my weight and daily calorie intake using Lose it! on my phone. I didn't really want to start calorie restriction yet, just monitoring but that was not am option, so I put in the goal to be 189 by November 2025 or a loss of about a half pound a week. It suggests a 2200 calorie a day intake (currently. I'm sure it would/will go down as weight is lost) to reach my goal. It seems I already consume less than that, so now I'm stuck with goals I didn't set out to make.

1/16 Weight 263.5... Suggested daily calorie intake 2,267... Calorie intake metric TBD....
