Texas education officials' state takeover of Houston ISD

Post by Isgrimnur »

Houston Chronicle
The Texas Education Agency’s effort to takeover the Houston ISD started back in 2019, when Wheatley High School failed state standards seven years in a row and triggered state statutes (Wheatley now has a passing score). Since then, there have been meetings, protests and lawsuits.
...
Former Dallas ISD superintendent Mike Miles has been selected as the new head of HISD, a crucial first step in the state’s sweeping takeover of Texas' largest district.

The announcement of Miles’ new position Thursday is expected to be followed closely by the naming of an all new board of managers. The new board will replace the elected school board, and will set policy and oversee the new superintendent during the takeover, expected to last at least five years.
