i took it. literally could not figure out how to redeem codes with the new Steam interface on the desktop client! so i tried it with the online redeemer, and ...

I just checked and it appears to be exactly the same as it was before, Games menu -> Activate a product on steam. Or just click the "Add a Game" button in the lower left corner of your library.
