Reading posts from all over the board today and thinking of how we're all aging upwards I smiled thinking about what a movie called Grumpy Old Forum Members would be like. :D

He's disqualified. He's always been grumpy! ;)

I'm getting there, though. I'm mostly just grumbly right now, but grumpy can't be far.

During the school year, getting the kids to get up by 7:30 for school was like pulling teeth. It was a massive battle every. single. day.

Today is the first day of summer break. All three of them were wide awake, dressed, and eating breakfast...at 6:30am. One of the twins actually woke up at 5:30 and I had to put him back to bed.

WTF? Little goblins... :grund:

This is absolutely the wrong time to be trying to build a house. Contractors around here are all booked out until middle-to-end of next year, and materials prices are skirting 5x what they were last year at this time. It's bananas.

More and more it's looking like I'll be living in Vermont and commuting to Maine on the weekends for over a year before we can get a livable home up on our new lot. The lot is beautiful, too. Huge old trees, tall canopy, open spaces - all on a decent hill with plans to build the house near the top.

I'm sorely tempted to get the driveway and utilities installed and then plunk down a pre-owned mobile Tiny Home I can live in instead. Then at least I won't be paying rent and will be on my land by default when contractors want to stop in.

Went in and cleaned out my office at our corporate HQ this morning. It's official, I'm now a 100% remote employee...even took my nameplate off the door. I got hit with a surprisingly strong wave of...nostalgia? Sadness? Both? Outside of the past year, I've been in that office for the past 16 years. Granted, lots of my time has been spent on the road, but it felt really strange to pack everything up for the final time.

Felt like there should have been a video montage with "Time of Your Life" playing as I walked out the door with my box full of stuff. :(

I see sci fi movies with ships and stuff and I always wonder where the bathroom is.

Me and my wife always wanted to go back in time to the 50s and eat at a diner and go see a B movie or serial. Theres a John Goodman movie from the 90s called Matinee that gave me that feeling of a movie in that time....even if it was set at the start of the 60s :).

Ok my random.......I wish Google would combine Google Maps and Google Earth into one usable app. In one I can go back to 2007 in street view but I have to load the other to go back in time for overhead views. It goes back to 1993 also. So if they could simply combine those two Id like that.

EDIT: Its go back in time....go back in tim is a whole other thing.

Would we like a new Mechwarrior movie? Something based on a merc company? The last robot movie I saw was Robot Jox in the 90s. I haven't seen Pacific Rim but have watched countless clips on YT of it. I think it could be done. Id like a movie set in the Mechwarrior universe. Could even make it a trilogy by starting with the Star League then the next could be The Clans and finally a full blown Mercenary movie.

So in effort to keep all the internet throughput on my rig, I had long since culled all those updating tiles from my start menu. Friggen cortana and last night's Windows update decided put the weather on my task bar and if I hover over it, sure enough its full of all kinds of updates like the front page of an MSN webpage and is constantly updating. :grund:

Edit: Taskbar News and interest no longer is turned on but some how I bet it's loading in the background with live info all the time.

I think it may be time to pass things on to the new generation:

My 7 year old granddaughter can solve a Rubik's Cube (The 5 y. o. isn't far behind).

My 5 year old grandson checkmated me at chess. It was a "lucky" 1 move mate with the queen, but still.

Come back from supper and Microsoft had reset my computer and blessed me with a news and weather addition to my taskbar. Fortunately took less than a minute to get it off.
Do people actually ask MS for these "features" or does some bigwig decides he likes it?

I'm just annoyed that I keep getting rid of it so they keep putting it in new places and I don't doubt for one second that this "service" is still in the background eating bandwidth, RAM, and CPU cycles. It's the posterchild for bloatware. Remove it from the browser, they build it in. Remove the browser, they put it in start menu, remove it from the start menu, it's in the internal search, remove it from the internal search (briefly your machine because regedit and an update don't get along. before they give you an option to remove it) and they put it on your taskbar.... I seem to remember they once tried to put on your desktop with "Aero" which I always turned off by default.

It's not like I don't say "no" to every "option" feature they ask me for every time I load a new system.

Any recommendations for a silicone spray? My car window is slow going up and I was told I could use the spray on the window rails to fix that. Will any old brand do? Ill just get it from Amazon next week cause shipping is free so cheaper than going up the street for some or ordering elsewhere.

I noticed too, and the update took long enough to apply, I thought something had gone wrong. It wasn't immediately obvious how to turn if off. The more obvious route seemed to only take me to removing specific interests and feeds. It almost felt like the return of widgets.

FWIW, O&O AppBuster provides a free, portable, and easy way to uninstall apps pre-installed by Microsoft.

Well, it does create a System Restore point prior to uninstalling anything, and also makes it incredibly simple and easy to re-install any apps you may want to keep vs. manually fiddling around in PowerShell. By default, it also hides System and Framework apps, i.e. the important components for running Windows itself and others apps. You can see it in action below:

Mrs Skinypupy and I have been married for 23 years next week, and have been together for just under 25.

I heard her drop an f-bomb for the first time ever last night, after the Doordash driver who was supposed to be delivering 10 pizzas for her dance team's party literally stole it.

The driver called Mrs SP saying she couldn't find the address. Mrs SP was extremely patient trying to give her directions on three separate phone calls and a series of texts, but she still couldn't find the place. The driver apparently just gave up, marked the food as "delivered", submitted a picture of the pizza sitting on the front seat of her car claiming that was the delivery location, then put in the notes that "the customer was completely unresponsive to her requests for additional directions".

I honestly don't think I've ever seen her as mad as she was last night. I feel a little bit bad for the hell that is about to rain down on that Doordash driver.
