My favorite is when DC created Elongated Man to rip off Plastic Man. It was only later that they realized that they already owned Plastic Man and could have just used him.hitbyambulance wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 5:02 pmhttps://www.cbr.com/marvel-dc-rip-offs/
this is far from all of them, however.
unrelated, but "Captain Marvel" (DC) vs "Captain Marvel" (Marvel) is still funny

Look, you're not seeing the big picture. Let DC show, through Glue Guy Gabe or Portable Paste Pat, that there's a *massive* market for live action glue-based superhero films, and you'll have a massive bidding war for your Paste Pot Pete script.

I watched Joker recently. I certainly liked it and Joaquin was great but I also came away thinking I would probably not want to watch it again.

Yes I remember many comparisons to Taxi Driver when it came out. (Sheepish look...) I have never seen Taxi Driver. I really need to remedy that...

I don’t know who any of those characters are (only one I recognized was Harley Quinn, but it looked fun and the cast was great. I typically skip DC movies, but will definitely catch that one.

Re: Suicide Squad Official Trailer
That's to be expected. I read DC a fair amount, and I only 'know' a few (Polka Dot Man, Cpt. Boomerang, Thinker, King Shark, Mongal. Ratcatcher, but only barely.) I know who the rest are, but mostly only from the marketing for the film. It's the same thing he did with Guardians of the Galaxy by going with completely obscure, unknown characters.

Quite a few beyond Harley are carryovers from the 2016 version of Suicide Squad.

I must have blocked them all out then. Easy to do, as the original is easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Re: Suicide Squad Official Trailer
I haven't seen the original (which I presume may be the ideal situation), but this looks like a lot of fun. It looks like it might be a re-skin of Guardians of the Galaxy mashed up with Deadpool, but I don't have a problem with that.

Who? Besides Capt Boomerang and Harley, I don't think any of the other squad members from the first one are present. (Not counting Amanda Waller and Rick Flag since they aren't actually part of the squad.)

That's pretty much it, and that's consistent with the comics. There are a few regular characters, but a huge number rotate in and out.

Early reviews are overwhelmingly positive…so far. But I have no reason to doubt Gunn has hit yet another home run. He loves the subjects of his films and the sincerity shows through in everything he does. Guillermo del Toro is also like that. I always enjoy their work because of that sincerity.

Re: Suicide Squad Official Trailer
So I watched in on HBO Max. Given how shitty HBO Max (the app) is, I was suprised there were no buffering or other issues watching it.
I thought it was fantastic. By far the best movie with Harley Quinn in it (and she is awesome). Pretty much all of the Squad are great. I was pleasantly surprised at how prominent a role Peter Capaldi had in it. Your mileage may vary but I would say this is my favorite DC movie since The Dark Knight. (The Dark Knight Rises has aged a bit poorly for me. #BaneSucks) Some people may prefer Wonder Woman which is a more earnest superhero movie - and fine with me if they do as it was great. (WW 1984 was utter trash.)
Anyway, I expected this to be great and it exceeded my expecations. Highly recommended.

Re: Suicide Squad Official Trailer
Is this a movie I can watch without seeing the first one? I started the first movie a while back and even though I can be forgiving of a good action flick I kind of lost interest.

Yeah there are 2 characters (one of which I didn't remember at all) from the first movie in here but you won't miss anything by skipping the first one (except viewing a medicore movie).
