NBA 2020-21 Season (Now with Playoffs)

Post by Jaymann »

It seems like it was just yesterday that...actually it was.

Glad to see Wes Matthews back on the Lakers, I thought they gave up on him too soon.

Meh. The NBA Regular Season is effectively a pre-season/exhibition season...

It's a bit of a shorter season this year, so each regular season game takes on slightly more weight*

* Approximately 14% more weight

LeBron goes 1,000 games with at least 10 points on his 36th birthday. If he can average just 1,000 points per year over the next 4 years, he will pass Kareem for the #1 career spot.

Yeah, so great that he actually led the Milwaukee Bucks to a championship before even joining the Lakers.

And they changed the rules in college because of him, and he still won 3 titles (frosh ineligibility cost him the fourth, when UCLA varsity were the national Champs and #1in the nation, but #2 in Westwood).

In possibly the most excitement so far this year, two blonde ladies get ejected in Atlanta after removing their masks to heckle LeBron James.

To LeBron's credit, he said he missed fan interaction and did not think they should have been removed. He speculated alcohol may have been a factor.

A clear shot of the two women:

The Mavs have stopped playing the National Anthem before games at Cuban's direction.

Good for them. When Kaep first started protesting, I realized how dumb it is to play the anthem before games and I hope all teams eventually follow suit.

The DoD paid the NFL to play the anthem. MLB started doing it I believe during WWII. But absolutely it's stupid.

Well that didn't last long.
One day after Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban confirmed to ESPN that his team had stopped playing the national anthem before games, the NBA on Wednesday issued a statement saying that wouldn't be the case going forward.

"With NBA teams now in the process of welcoming fans back into their arenas, all teams will play the national anthem in keeping with longstanding league policy," the league said in a statement.
Boooooooo!

LOL! Jimi Hendrix would be a close second.

Did you notice Texas was prompt to pass legislation forcing it be played at all events "receiving public funding"? So does this mean at all little league games, etc.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick was particularly ironic when he tweeted:

Teams for the All Star game have been chosen by Durant and LeBron. Looks evenly matched, but with no defense to be played, I give the edge to Team Durant.

Hopefully it's like last year in that the teams really do play tough defense in the fourth quarter. Made for a pretty exciting game.

Bummer, LeBron James out with a high ankle sprain.
After trying to play through the injury, suffered in the second quarter of Saturday's loss to the visiting Atlanta Hawks, James pulled himself out of the game and was later diagnosed with a high ankle sprain following an MRI. Although there's no specific timeline for James' return, a high ankle sprain is often a multiweek injury.
With no A.D., it's now the Las Kuzma Lakers. They might be in trouble.

Whew! Trading deadline is over. There was crazy talk of the Lakers giving up the farm (KCP, Schroeder, Harrell) for 35 year old Kyle Lowry??? That's not how you get younger. They stand pat, bullet dodged.

The deadline was a blast. In no particular order....

*I thought Orlando sold low on all 3 players.

*I can't believe how badly Houston did on the Harden deal. Miami gave up nothing for Dipo and Houston could have had Allen & LaVert.

*Denver's starting five is going to be fun to watch. They were already my adopted NBA League Pass team and now this just seals it for the season.

*Portland loves to make lateral moves that ever so slightly move the needle. They're still a first round exit.

*Chicago shocked me.

*Utah is still the team to beat, imo.

On another note, I keep getting two-month subscriptions to TrueHoop. If anyone wants one, I have 3 to hand out ($20 value each). Just shoot me a PM with an email address.

Lakers appear close to acquiring Andre Drummond via a buyout. Thank goodness management can feel like they are "doing something" without giving up any key players.

Lakers win their last 5 but will still have to face the Warriors in a play-in game. Even if they lose, they can still get in by besting the winner of Grizzlies/Spurs. Of more concern is LeBron hobbled off the court once again.

LeBron said he was fine and good to go so we'll see. What’s more concerning is that Schroeder was the only member of the team not to get vaccinated.

Ok, time to pay attention! Relegation Season starts this week, losers relegated to Regular Season next year, winners participate in the real NBA Season!

And whoa! We get the last 2 Western Conference Champs going head2head in the play-in tourney!

What a great final play-in game between the Grizzlies and Warriors. The Grizzlies led all night and by 10 with 3 minutes left. The Warriors came storming back to tie it up and force OT. Warriors took the lead a couple times but Ja Morant closed it out for the Grizzlies. Congrats on eliminating the Spurs AND Warriors.

And that 3 point buzzer-beater by LeBron will probably be one of the most replayed shots in Laker history.

This appears to not be true. The Lakers still haven't hit the 85% vaccination threshold that allows greater team freedoms. They need to vaccinate 15 of 17 to hit it, so there are at least 2 other holdouts. Speculation is LeBron is one.

So I tuned in to Heat at Bucks expecting a snooze fest, when an overtime thriller broke out. The Bucks survived by 2, but pundits are saying this is a bad matchup for them. The Heat started the season so poorly they have been largely ignored, but they are the defending Eastern Conference champs.

Order is restored as the Lakers get the crucial split in Phoenix. Did not realize that if the Lakers win the championship they would be the lowest seed (7) to win, ever.

Meanwhile the Clipper ship has run aground as they get stampeded by the Mavericks to go down 0-2.
