What strange adds have you been selected to view?

Post by UsulofDoom »

I use MS feed. I just had a add for body bags! Why would you even advertise that?

I do have adds that interest me off. I did not click on it.

So what strange adds have you seen on sites?

There was a brief few weeks when Google apparently believed I was Indian. I got all kinds of ads for saris, cheap travel to South Asia, international calling plans, and Hindi stuff I couldn't read.

Now I click on ads for computer games (and only computer games) at least once a day, and this has taught the algorithms to show me more of that. I see Humble Bundle almost everywhere I go.

Hmm. Haven't seen any, but...

Seemingly as a result of the acquisition, all articles that feature Vidme embeds redirected to the 5 Star Porn HD homepage, as does the vid.me site—you may not want to confirm the latter while at work. This could have all been a marketing stunt by the company, of course.

Most major sites have now cleaned up the embeds, but with some of the articles several years old, you might be unlucky enough—or lucky, depending on your point of view—to run across some accidental porn yourself.

None whatsoever.

I make sure to configure everything I own and use specifically not to display any ads at all. Because as far as I'm concerned, online ads and trackers are a nuisance that provides an attack vector for malware authors, compromise user security, and plainly, diminish one's browsing experience, so FTN.

I guess that's possible. But it was years ago and hasn't recurred, and I've changed passwords many times since then.

The other day, I grabbed a beer from the fridge, then checked my phone and FB (I think) was showing an add for the exact same beer. And it's not like it was something terribly common -- the beer was Founder's Centennial IPA. That's some ridiculous level of spying!

In my physical mailbox today were two weird ones. One was my hand written address and a stamp even lol. It was from some guy in another state and he sent me some bible quotes or something. The other one was insurance junk for my final expenses. Do these people know something I dont know?? :)
