This occurred to me, but it takes place six years after Han. If a technology was suddenly presented that let bounty hunters A) keep their targets calm, B) prevent escape, C) eliminate the need to feed/care for them, and D) collect half a dozen targets before taking them back, I'd imagine that word would spread quickly. And (if I recall...) carbonite wasn't a new technology. It was a way of preserving food. All that was new was the implementation. So they could likely wander down to Star-Mart, grab a Galactic Value model off the shelf, and stick it in the closet.

Anybody can trap someone in carbonite. It's the bringing them out alive that's the real trick.
