This is a crappy recording of my favorite version of Born to be Wild. You can listen to the studio version here.

Re: Awesome covers
Not sure if you saw the date on the video, it was from almost 15 years ago. I do not think Tom or Nina look that good anymore. The cover was re-released or something this last year and gained popularity. The video is odd but I think it shows the contrast between the two singers. The contrast works in the song.Rip wrote:Tom Jones is not only still alive but can still sing and looks younger than me.

Depeche Mode Cover David Bowie's Heroes For the song's 40th anniversary
Depeche Mode Cover David Bowie's Heroes For the song's 40th anniversary
The story goes that David Bowie wrote "Heroes," with Brian Eno, after spotting a couple kissing at the Berlin Wall. The couple was Bowie's producer and engineer Tony Visconti and his girlfriend Antonia Maass:
Visconti went for a walk by the adjacent Berlin Wall with backing singer Antonia Maass, and this couple then unwittingly aided the songwriting process by indulging in what they thought was a spot of covert smooching. "David could see us, and we quickly got written into the lyrics as the lovers who kissed by the wall," Visconti admits. "He wrote the entire lyrics looking out through the windows of Hansa Studios, and when I returned after a couple of hours and asked him how it was going, he said 'Oh, I've finished.' His assistant, Coco Schwab, then took me aside and said 'I think you and Antonia are in the song.' I was married at the time, so this story was never allowed to be made public, but I don't mind now.
Bowie's performance at the wall in 1987 is said to have had a role in its destruction.
Now, for the 40th anniversary of the song's release on September 23, 1977, "Heroes" is being performed by Depeche Mode both in concert and in the studio.

Re: Awesome covers
Gahan's voice just doesn't fit that song at all. He sounds like a bad Elvis impersonator trying to cover a Bowie song.

Re: Awesome covers
That doesn’t even sound like a cover so much as a completely different song with the same lyrics and some wailing here and there.
Now depoliticized.

After months of pestering, Weezer finally does a cover of Toto's Africa, released today. Last week they released a cover of Rosanna so it was probably inevitable. Both are solid.
Maybe next year, maybe no go

While on the 'Sweet Child O' Mine' kick, here's Metalachi covering it:
No drums, no electronics, only instruments used in a traditional mariachi band (and yes, they cover many other 'metal' songs)

Someone in some thread here posted a video of Tom Jones and The Cardigans covering The Talking Heads Burning Down the House and I cant stop listening to it. I love TTH and I really like The Cardis since the 90s but I never cared for Tom Jones. But he nails this song. its from 2003.

Re: Awesome covers
I am more than a little surprised that no one responded to this. After Johnny Cash stealing "Hurt" from Nine Inch Nails, I think this is probably my second favorite cover. Usually for me to enjoy a cover, it has to depart pretty significantly from the original (think Disturbed covering Genesis, or Marilyn Manson covering the Eurythmics), but in this case, staying so close to Sinead's version works spectacularly well with his voice.Toe wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2016 9:24 pm Nothing Compares 2 U - covered by the incomparable Chris Cornell

Re: Awesome covers
That's technically true (the best kind). But her version is the standard, not Prince's (in the same way that "Hurt" is no longer a NiN song, even by Trent Reznor's own admission). And Cornell is covering her version.

Didn't want to start a separate thread, but Joe Cocker's cover of the Boxtop's "The Letter" may actually be the worst cover version of any song in history.

Let's be clear now: I'm not saying it's the worst song ever, though I don't care for it. What I'm saying is that it bears no resemblance whatsoever to the original song, which was vastly superior IMHO.Fretmute wrote: ↑Wed Jul 11, 2018 10:36 amI don't think it's that bad, myself.

edit = also, Pointer Sisters covering Springsteen's 'Fire'.

Re: Awesome covers
Amazing. It even looks like a classic Weezer video. Weird Al is so multifaceted.
So much better than Postmodern Jukebox's cover of the same song which is supposedly done in a 50's style that doesn't even feel much like 50's style. Doesn't really work, IMHO. And what's with the nonsensical skit? I think that song would work better as a New Orleans style jazz song.
Oh, this latest cover from Postmodern Jukebox is killer, pun intended. Their cover of Video Killed the Radio Star (Queen Style)
