Re: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I don't allow my kids to speak while I play. Well, they can trash talk, but no advice can be given and I'm very strict about it. It kind of kills them because they are much farther ahead in general terms- I think they've found all four beasts and made it to the end battle of each but they can't actually beat them - and I like to take my time to explore rather than race down mission paths. It amuses me.coopasonic wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 11:59 am If you like I could lend you my 12yo and he could tell you all the things you could be doing better... and unlike when he was giving me crap on my tetris gameplay, he is pretty on point when it comes to BotW. He has finished it 3 times now and has done pretty much everything the game has to offer. I'm pretty sure Ganon has nightmares about him.

One aspect of the game that never clicked with me was the whole horse thing. I much prefered walking around and found the network of teleportation spots more than ample to cover those times when I had to travel long distances. A history of not using horses was a minor inconvenience when... (spoiler ahead, don't read unless you're done with the game)

I must have inspired them - both kids have now defeated 2 of the 4 beasts and are very proud that they needed no help.

I play this with the 8-year-old. She loves exploring, cooking, interacting, doing shrines. When combat happens, she'll pause and let me drive. She doesn't like doing combat but she loves telling me how to dispose of enemies in hilarious, physics-model using ways. A ton of fun.

Little B 9.5 has expressed interest in this game...so I'll now likely be buying it for a third time (traded in both my previous Wii U and Switch versions).LawBeefaroni wrote: ↑Wed Aug 01, 2018 9:54 am I play this with the 8-year-old. My daughter will play nothing but freaking minecraft! Granted shes"good" at it and very creative but my lord I hate me some Minecraft . I ended up trading in the switch after playing Zelda enough to get my money's worth.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
LOL! I did technically justify the Switch purchase as shared toy for me and the daughter. I then justified a Xbone purchase for myself based on trading in the switch to offset the cost. That plus a big lull in games I wanted and having the attention sp....oh look a shiny rock.
So as you can see I had no choice and this is all my daughter's fault!
I could blame the new TV to, it was getting bored and wanted to flex it's muscles!
P.S. Don't tell the wife but I can pretty much guarantee I'll get another one at some point.

I checked my recorded time in game yesterday - 46 hours. I'm not the fastest played (I walk almost everywhere and love to explore) and only just saw - way off in the distance - my second divine beast. This is going to be a long game.

Now at 90 hours and have completed 3 beasts. The fourth is going to be a challenge as i still have to figure out how to simply get in the town. I'm at 65 shrines and 122 Koroks too. Still a really beautiful game and I'm still walking everywhere.

Up to 113 hours, 87 shrines, and an even 200 Koroks. Only 1 beast left, but I'm concentrating on finding my memories, so it might be a while. Still have 9 of those left to find.

I need to get back to this. I gave it to a friend for Christmas and am a little jealous that he gets to experience it for the first time.
Side note: I played Gris, a $17, 4-hour game, and it's great.

My wife just finished Breath of the Wild - and by "finished" I mean she beat the final boss and collected the Koroks.
All of them.
I don't think she wants to know how many hours she's played.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
After Christmas, I didn't get to play as the girls were playing all their new games. Might be another year before I get back to it. I have to get all my stats for posterity. I know I was up over 140 hours, just got what I needed to attempt the last beast, and only have 2 memories to retrieve. Not sure on my shrine or Korok count though.
I don't want to know right now, but I'm assuming I can search to find how many shrines and Koroks there are after I finish, right?

Re: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I've been playing this the last couple of days. I have three towers up for mapping, have finished 12 shrines (with 8 orbs to spend as soon as I get back to a shrine), and got my first horse.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I can send my son over to help you out. He is a walking game guide for breath of the wild. He will also let you know just how bad you are at combat and puzzles. He probably has around 500 hours in the game now.

I eventually got used to it. There are enough weapons around that having the be disposable isn't the end of the world. Makes it hard to feel invincible though - which is probably what they were going for.
Also, my daughter spoiled me on the Korok seeds -

Re: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Went back to it this weekend after my GR: Breakpoint month ended. Had to get a walkthrough to figure out how to progress through the elephant. I had apparently spaced on the need to acquire the map, so I had to go back and get that to proceed.
After that, I finished up last night by completing the eagle.

I bounced off this game like 10 times before it clicked and then it was my favorite game probably of all time. I'm just hoping this doesn't get delayed a million times. I'll be in day one this time.

The weapon stuff bothered me, but after a while you start to not care. I had bounced off as I just hadn't gotten far enough to start getting how much cool stuff there is to do. I had gotten stuck on the water boss as my first boss because I didn't really understand the game mechanics very well. And he was the most annoying of all the bosses it turns out.

The weapon degradation is worst early on. It gets less annoying as you start getting better weapons to drop - and especially once you get the master sword (though if I remember correctly getting it is a pain in the ass). I do think they should have made them last a lot longer before breaking but you kind of get acclimated to it.

It's NBD once you're used to it. The problem is people don't want to get used to it. Weapons just aren't a big deal in BotW.

My daughter was in 5th grade when Breath of the Wild was released and 7th grade when BOTW 2 was announced. I told her she'd probably get to play it in high school. She'll be at the end of her junior year if the current release plan holds. Don't make a fool out of me Nintendo!!
