Waves of fighters pounce on the formation. Three Me 109s approach from 10:30 but a friendly fighter pounces on one of the bandits in return leaving two fighters continuing their attack. Raydude, Daehawk fire at the Me 109 approaching from 10:30 level and score solid hits on the fuselage. The fighter begins to arc towards the ground and the pilot bails out. Gbasden fires at the fighter at 10:30 low, hitting the left wing and possibly damaging its gun. The bandit misses the bomber and it flies off.

Three fighters from the next wave attack from 12:00 and 3:00. One fighter peels off, engaged with one of our escorts. A Fw 190 ace flies at the bomber from 12:00 level. Raydude and Daehawk fire and the tail is sheared off by the fire. Amazingly, the pilot is able to bail out as it plummets towards the ground. Another Fw 190 flies in from 3:00 low. Gbasden scores a hit but causes no damage while the fighter fires back and misses. The fighter curves away from the Sally and searches for another target. Eventually the skies clear and the formation flies on.
As the bombers make their way towards Austria the planes take advantage of the clear skies and tighten up the formation, hoping to be more effective against further attacks.
Nice random event=Tight Formation. You get a favorable DRM when rolling for how many waves will attack the formation and because it's a tighter group of bombers there's also a favorable DRM when rolling on the bomb run table.
Other than the initial attack, the bombers fly over Yugoslavia unimpeded and they also don't encounter fighters over Hungary. There's some cloud cover as they cross into Austria and fighters make an appearance.

A pair of Fw 190s attack from 12:00 level and 1:30 low but our little friends are really earning their pay today as they drive off one of the bandits. The other one is destroyed by Raydude's and Daehawk's combined fire as the pilot bails out and floats towards the ground. Zenn7 readies his twin guns but is horrified that one of the guns is jammed due to ice and he frantically works to clear it before another wave attacks. There is a pause in fighter attacks as the planes approach the aircraft factory and fly into the flak box. Puffs of smoke surround the bombers and occasionally they hear the sound of shrapnel hitting the plane like hail. Isgrimnur is now in control of the bomber as the Sally flies toward the release point. Some clouds have obscured the factory but hopefully the tighter formation will help their accuracy. The lead bomber drops his bombs and Isgrimnur releases the Sally's payload. NickAragua steers the bomber away from the target as the formation hightails it for home. The flak has gone silent which only means that bandits are going to engage the bombers...
So not as nice a random event. It was a "extreme cold, all gunners check if guns have frozen" which was an issue at 20,000 feet. Hopefully, Zenn7 will make the appropriate dice roll and unjam his gun. Lucky for him he's manning a twin gun and only one gun was jammed. Also having "fair" fighter escort coverage vs the "poor" coverage in the last mission really makes an impact on the bandit attacks.
