Huh. I was thinking of mass shooting victims in the US.
Once again, the idea that he's a presumptive candidate is simultaneously depressing and frightening. America is not well.Trump: One of the presidents of a big country stood up and said, Well, sir, if we don't pay and were attacked by Russia, will you protect us? I said.. No I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want.
I’d agree it’s a lie because usually he’d name the person who said it had they actually done it.
First, you know it's a lie because drumpf said it.waitingtoconnect wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 6:38 pm

This has been a consistent complaint of many presidents though albeit none had used trumps language.
I don't think so. Pretty sure I read that all members except Finland are now spending at least 2% of GDP and many are over that. They started reluctantly raising their budgets in response to trump's bombast and really stepped up their games when Putin invaded Ukraine. Finland will be in compliance by 2026.
Yes - much of the 800 billion spent on defence by the Us does not go on defense for nato but other operations while most budget by small nations goes to their own defense.GreenGoo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 8:29 amFirst, you know it's a lie because drumpf said it.waitingtoconnect wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 6:38 pm

Second, no leader of a NATO country would talk in terms of "protecting them" as if they are helpless and begging to be rescued.
Third, the lie is not that NATO members aren't spending their required % of GDP on their military, it's that anyone begged Drumpf personally for his protection.
You say no one used drumpf's language and that's obviously true because not only is his language wrong, the tone and meaning behind his words are laughable.
Yes, America is a large and necessary member of NATO. You spend 40% of the entire world's military budget by yourself after all. No one denies that the US is a crucial member. What Drumpf is lying about is that any leader, even behind closed doors, talks about being protected by the US, or worse, drumpf personally.
"Will you honor your treaty obligations in the event of Russian aggression?" is not the same as "will you protect us from Russia?".
That's the lie.
Lastly, NATO requires members to spend a percentage of their GDP on their OWN defense. Not pay it to the US as if it's protection money. That members are not spending enough on their defense is a valid complaint, but no one is getting screwed, and NATO members contribute regularly to NATO military operations (of which there is no defined "dollar value" that must be part of every operation).
The US receives the exact same amount of dollars whether NATO members meet their NATO obligations on defense spending or not. Zero. Using this for political purposes is misleading at best, dishonest at worst. And since it's drumpf, assume the worst.
That's because are smarter than and know how to hide better.waitingtoconnect wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 12:09 am At least it’s good to see the mass media aren’t onto us yet and didn’t use octopus overlords but rather lizard overlords.
