Phantom Tags at end of posts [Gedd!!!]
I'm sure we've all seen them at the end of a text in a post: the phantom closing phpBB tag that exists without it's opening brother. I've found out how it happens and wanted to post a heads-up to Those With the Power to Fix It.
If one uses one of the html buttons to create their UBB tag (I've conveniently done so with the quote tag in this note), the closing tag for that function gets automagically appended to the end of the post -- OUTSIDE the content creation window. Despite the fact that I hit the quote button, above, and then manually erased the opening tag (which *does* appear in the text window used to create a post), that phantom closing tag does *not* appear, so I cannot manually erase it. However, I'm as sure as can be that a closing quote tag is going to appear in this post right after I sign my name.
Clear enough?

1. Hit "Post Reply" or "Post New Topic."
2. Underneath the subject line, push one of the buttons ("Quote" "Code" "List" "List=" "Img" "URL") creating tags within your message. These buttons only display the *opening* tags for your message. The closing UBB tag does not get placed in your message, but get appended to whatever you compose *after* you hit the "Submit" button.
3. Erase the opening UBB tags that get dumped into your white posting window.
4. Push the Submit button.

Well, there's obviously some recordkeeping going on when you click the tag helpers. I'll take a look and see if anyone's fixed the JS for the relevant functions.
Until then, I'm reminded of a very old joke.
Guy: Doctor, it hurts when I move my arm like this. Is there anything I can do?
Doctor: Yeah, stop moving your arm like that.
