disarm wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2023 4:22 pm I couldn't find if you mentioned it earlier, but was your hernia repair done 'open' (big incision) or laparoscopic? My two inguinal hernias were done laparoscopically with mesh, and the umbilical (belly button) was sewn up through one of the same incisions used for the laparoscopic access. I was up and moving, albeit slowly, an hour after the surgery... walked to the bathroom, dressed myself (except for shoes because I couldn't bend that far), and got in the car to go home.

My point is that repair technique can make a huge difference. Mine was done laparoscopically using a TAPP technique by a guy who specializes in laparoscopic hernia surgery, and I can't imagine it going much more easily.
Three tiny incisions, like 1/16" and when I woke up there were some markers marks but no incisions around my abdomen. If memory serves (and it often doesn't) they inserted a bladder, inflated it, used the open space to somehow anchor mesh on both sides of my abdomen above the groin. Tying it to? and then I was to wait for muscle to grow over it. I look up the procedure name if I need to.

Those of you that take prescriptions regularly like me....have you ever smelled your medicine bottles of the different types? Ive noticed lately mine have different smells..all of them bad in some way.

Some have a strong chemical smell. Others have a sickly sweet smell. None of them taste like they smell either. Lots of weird smelling medicine.

I don't but one of the side effects of my diabetes is things taste different than they used to and not in a good way.

Shook hands with a guy today, and boy did that guy have a grip. I've been doing some random orbit sanding lately and my hand has been reacting badly to that so that crushing squeeze sent it over the edge. You know it's bad if I actually buy something to deal with it. Picked up some Qunol Turmeric and chewed two right away. Seemed to help when my hand used to react to running a lawn service so hopefully. At least I'm done with the sanding, but I'm thinking of replacing some suspension parts soon and I don't look forward to doing any wrenching. I took those two gummies two hours ago and my hand is feeling better already, I wonder if it's partly placebo effect?

A regular grip lines your finger bones up. Always shake hands with your index finger extended so it's roughly parallel to the other person's arm. It aligns the bones of your hand in such a way that makes it harder to crush.

It was a trick that a state 'protection detail' officer taught me years ago for when you're on duty and can't get out of shaking hands.

I've looked at them for my vortex mixer (a test tube mixer that is frequently marketed for small paint bottles), as they create really intense vibrations that are documented to be harmful. I'm unlikely to use mine to the degree that a lab tech would, so it's probably not an issue. But I like to be safe.

In the end, I decided that putting on gloves every time I want to shake a bottle of paint would be impractical. Instead, I cut myself a square of old yoga mat and just hold the bottles with that.

Going with this same train of thought, I now know that such a thing as a butt wiper tool exists too. Although I'm a little afraid to see what three more inches of reach might yield. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=butt+wiper+t ... -doa-p_2_9

Or I type llike or leik instead of like. Sometimes I look up and see a word I have no idea what it is its so bad. I have to reread the entire sentence to guess at what I wanted to say there. I type a 8 word sentence and 3 are wrong. I spend have my post correcting typos. And if I dont watch it ill type it wrong again ..ill see my finer go to the wrong letter and try to correct it the same wrong letter..and Im watching my reach to the key. Ists damn anooying now......see I left that last sentence as I typed it. 4 words 2 wrong.

Remember a ways back I was posting about having a ton of muscle cramps? They went away finally and I never knew why. Was just glad they did.

Now they're returning. For the last few days along with feeling sick and not being able to eat much Ive had a bunch again. Shoulder blades, calves, inner hips area, ribs. And Im not sure why.

Im 8 months late on a doc visit and really need to go. Maybe my car will be fixed soon. Starting to think with my gut something worse than normal may be wrong. My belly is bigger now than ever and feels tight at times and like i cant swallow food. Maybe I can find out soon.

Side effects from the cancer medicine knock me out for the two week vacation to Branson. Neuropathy in my right foot kept me from sleeping the last week and now it has reappeared in my left fort.

My left hand started seizing up, kind of. Lots of pain in the thumb and its tendon when in particular orientations/grips. Now my right hand is getting in on the act. Going to see my doc next week. I have a bad feeling that my arthritis is entering an exciting new phase...but maybe not, since I can't seem to localize it to a joint.

Thanks for the suggs. I'm hoping the doc will say that physical therapy is the answer, but I imagine some imaging is going to be needed first. Imaging gets more expensive under our insurance in January so I want to deal with it now.

Also have heartburn thanks to the food I ate today and how much. Mustard works instantly but dont want to hurt my unsick stomach...and tums dont work fast....instead I just now used and old fashioned cure I learned from my MiL....baking soda in some water and drink down. It worked..so far. but now im really full again and need to go to bed..thats gonna make it all worse.

Jesus Christ and toenail clipping!

When I was younger I couldn't understand why it seemed such a challenge to my dad and older folk to cut their toenails. Looked like some exotic exercise routine and contortion display.

I used to just sit in a chair, heist my foot up against me with my knee in the air and bend my head down past my knee to reach and clip them no problem. No fuss.

Now that Im 54 I have to throw my foot up on the edge on the metal garbage can with my house slipper under my foot for comfort and put all my weight on that foot and I bend down and blow out all my breath and hold it cause my dad belly appeared at 50 like a basketball without a court while I clip them. I huff and puff more than when I used to have sex as a teenager . And Im more give out and have less to show for it.

Whats gonna happen to me in 10 more years? Am I going to have to go in one of those little side shops inside Walmart where the Asian women do foot washing and pedicures and have them get out the chainsaw and hack off them claws cause I can no long bend down and reach my own toes??

Oh and hey I wonder if they do ear hair trimmings.

What I get for cleaning instead of playing game. A thick piece of glossy cardboard I ripped before depositing into the recycling gave my a gushing paper gash. Like my skin is so thin and fragile it can barely contain my insides any more. Everything cuts me and being on daily aspirin, every cut makes me feel like a hemophiliac.

I've been having persistent diarrhea for two weeks... even with taking prescription. I think finally figured out why... This dimsum shop I often go to. If I don't eat there, my symptoms starts to subside. I haven't been there in 3 days, and my symptoms are mostly gone. Weird.
