Seeded vs. Seedless hops: Most hops around the world are propagated by cuttings, are grown in the absence of male plants, and therefore are seedless. Growers would love to plant 2–4 male plants per acre, which would increase yields by as much as 25% because pollination stimulates the growth of the cone and adds weight in the form of seeds. The seed coat, or perianth, is maternal tissue, and it also develops resin glands identical to those found on the bracteoles of the cones. Thus, the total soft-resin production of seeded hops on a per-acre basis is somewhat higher than that of seedless hops because of both the larger cone size and additional lupulin glands on the seed coat. The relative alpha-acids content expressed as a percentage of weight, however, is slightly lower in seeded than in seedless hops because of the dilutive effect of larger cone size and higher yields.

I knew someone would suggest an eclipse. I’m not satisfied. The shadow of earth is way to small.

Perhaps this apocalypse involved the orbital distance of the moon.

As an ex-zookeeper, I will also add that although they can freak out and simply drop dead like some of the hoofed mammals (see giraffes, which I also took care of), flamingos do know enough to bite you directly in the face when you pick them up.

Someone on FB posted this flier from Your Mother's first public appearance in 1979. I played punk clarinet and vocals in Your Mother. As one of my bandmates (still a musician) put it: "So this just got posted. My first gig with my first band, featuring punk rock/new wave music, dancing girls, hot dogs forced through a fan, and a shutdown from campus security."

Your Mother started as a basement band just for fun. I was encouraged to drop out the next year when the real musicians in the band decided to get serious. "Practicing" just wasn't as fun as jamming so I was happy to go. They enjoyed some success before everyone graduated and moved away.
