this should be fun to watch again this year.
Some claim to be things they aren't.
Some claim things they don't deserve.
Some claim to know more than they ever will.
I don't claim anything, because no one would believe the truth anyways.

Just catching up. As far as missed weeks, if you went with the points thing I'd say give them 1 less than the worst score of the week. If you gave out 10 points and someone scored 6 that week they would have a double right to be annoyed (first at themselves then at the guy who scored better by skipping).

I like the relaxed lock idea best though. Of course I can see myself getting cocky and scoring negative due to overloading the locks......

Me too. I'm thinking we should either have no change, or go for simply removing the lock limit (limit would remain in place for playoffs, however). Thoughts from folks who care, given those two options?

Vote no change.

Unlimited locks would be crazy.

A lock limit requires a little more thought. There wouldn't be much point in removing it; how many people will potentially cap their max score at a lower ceiling than the person(s) they are chasing in the standings?

My guess is a lot. Locks 6-10 have a lower expected return than locks 1-5 (my estimation would be that the expected return is approximately 0). And if you spend some time analyzing stats, locks 1-5 don't have a very high expected return, either. Locks 11-16 have even less than 6-10. I think it'd be rare that folks just lock everything.

That said, my vote would likely be to leave things as they are, simply because I like the 5-lock limit.

Maybe the leaders would be conservative...but the chases? I doubt it. They will try to get back in the hunt; and the risk is greater, many will fall further behind to the point that conservatism is not an option.

Do many people lock less than 5 now?

Slight lean towards removing the lock limit, but I won't fight for it one way or the other. It makes things a bit more interesting and allows folks a chance to "go for broke" those last few weeks (can you imagine the stress in figuring out how many locks to use on Week 17 if you're close to the cutoff?), but like Zax points out, there's definitely a line of diminishing returns (based on my analysis after the first few seasons of OONFL, it was well after the first five picks, however — I had concluded that using all five picks, every week, was the only viable strategic option for folks trying to win the regular season pool).

I have to lodge a complaint for the topic title, however. This is definitely not OONFL2111! :D

Indeed; I have an irrational love of the word 'eleventy-one' and couldn't pass up the opportunity [however silly] to employ it.

Re: OONFL2kEleventyOne - Sign-ups Now Accepted!

Post by Zaxxon »

Stolen from the updated first post:

Update: Pre-season has begun, which means sign-ups are officially being accepted. To sign up, PM me and include the email address that you'd like to have added to the OONFL mailing list for the season, whether or not you'd like to add an Ironman entry alongside your regular entry, and let me know your preferred donation tranmittal option: PayPal or snail mail. I'll reply with appropriate instructions.
End Update

If you've got non-OOer friends who you think will be joining us, they can just email me if that's easier (make sure they include a handle for the pool roster), but ideally ask them to sign up here so they can join in on the conversation.

Since we haven't gotten much in the way of clear preference to open it up, I'm leaning toward leaving it. If anyone feels strongly that we should try opening it up, now is the time to speak up.

Also, I plan to use the same tie-breakers as last year; make sure to submit these before Week 1:

1) Favre TDs this season
2) Team w/best reg-season record
3) Non-QB with most TDs

Nice. So there's a 50% chance that the answer to #1 will be zero. :)

I'm in + the Ironman.

Last year I said I'd send a $10 scratch ticket to the winner of the Ironman. JC Anejo was the only one who took me up on my offer.....

I lost, I sent the ticket and he said he won $50. Imagine the winnings if EVERYONE signed up for an Ironman entry!

I'm just wondering what the wager should be this year? $10? $10 scratch ticket? $5 better than nothing?

This Ironman wager would be totally separate from the regular entries.

Meaning don't bother Zaxxon about Ironman wagers.

Unless your Ironman makes it to the playoffs, in which case, God Bless You....
