So here's a question. How/where do you actually collect the artifacts? Asking for a friend.
Look for enemy heros with a star as part of their icon. Kill them, walk over where they were and auto-pickup their loot.
Or, you could do quests and explore ruiins and find them yourself rather than ruthlessly killing the people who spent their time doing quests and exploring ruins.
PS: Didn't Archinerd say he had some artifacts? That might be a good place to start hunting enemy heroes.
You can also transfer them between heroes in the same stack, but you need to drop them on the ground and the pick them up in the hero dialog. Don't destroy them if you can even do that.

Thanks to whoever declared war on me a turn or two ago. You're much closer than Arch is! And my maintenance is exceeding my income again. I need more money/less maintenance. Your assistance in these matters is greatly appreciated.
Think that was me killing a scout, but you escalated in a hurry. I think I may have helped your maintenance a bit, though you still have a ton of armies...
You helped, but I still have a ton of armies. You helped some more on my turn (wow those troops were grossly ineffective, they were never going to win but thought they'd whittle you down more before the main event). That must not have been your main hero though if we all start with a flag item.
EDIT: Turn 23 sent to Ralph.
Is it sad that waiting for the next turn of this game is like the most exciting thing I look forward to in day to day life?

It has me constantly checking my personal email I used a lot more than I usually do, and I'm always a bit down when I see that I don't have a new turn!

Jesus said, "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body."[Matt 10:28] God can totally destroy us.
Jesus also said, "For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”[John 6:40] Eternal life is conditional.
His disciple John wrote, "Whoever has the Son has eternal life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have eternal life. [1 John 5:12] Eternal life is optional.
Good news, to help you out, I decided to eliminate 49 of my own armies!
(The PR version of running out of money and 49 units abandoned me; probably not a good idea to run out of money, but those were mostly rats).
And after sacking a city full of valuable, useful production to complete a quest and refill my coffers, got enough money to get through at least the next turn (assuming I don't blow it all).
Your number of defenders was scary in that town! Especially since I didn't want to summon another demon horde (too little money to waste on that). Wasted a stack of good units (which brought my expenses down considerably, to kill 6-8 rats that with bonuses were strength 10, not quite enough to make them get less banding for the next wave).
(Hope people aren't annoyed if I pop in here every few days and check for status, I try to do so in an odd and hopefully remotely entertaining fashion)
Archinerd is not playing very nice. I was just taking a nice stroll to explore down south and the next thing I know I open up my turn and one (?) of my armies is destroyed! Not cool!

There's only 1 appropriate response to that. Send the rest of your armies down and wipe him out! (Ask Pyperkub, I practice what I preach).
