New Year, new measurables. I am moving my calorie intake to a "moderately active level" as I have getting my 10,000 steps in consistently, do PT regularly, try to do more work around the house, and am trying to intersperse jogging in my walks most days. This seems to allow me a floor of 7,250 steps a day at about 500 more calories baseline in my daily budget. Not sure what kicks in after 7250. At 5000, it was about 3 calories per 100 steps. We'll see how well that does for maintenance. I hope don't redline my budget every day. I'll accept continued weight loss if I'm eating comfortably, even if the goal is not to lose more but rather to start rebuilding my overall health.

Same idea as last year:
Maintenance - 84 kg
Loss Goal - 82 kg
Stretch Loss Goal - 80 kg

Currently 84.2 kg (total loss last year was 0.6 kg)

As with all resolutions I hate setting single measurable goals. Combination of not liking to risk failing plus a nagging feeling that simple measurable goals don't really show the entire picture. My real goal is to be more active. If that involves some weight loss I'm ok. But if it doesn't I'm also ok.

That was my real goal last year. Weight is a symptom and an obstacle toward being feeling better, which is the real real goal. Last year eating less and being more active was the vehicle. This year maintaining that while trying to build... Strength, flexibility, endurance, stamina, heart and lung health, etc... is the the vehicle toward feeling better I plan on working on.

Goals for this year are to remain under 185 through April (when I usually peak), then get comfortably below 180 (say, 177.5) by EOY, with a stretch goal of 175.

I lost about 10lbs over the past two years, so I really just want to extend the same trend and lose another 5 this year.

I continued to struggle with my mental health last year and despite periods of discipline and exercise, I mostly spiraled out of control and gained a bunch of weight back. I've begun experiencing ankle swelling again, and snoring more and disturbing Mrs. Nym. But I've been mentally preparing myself for a fresh start this year and am ready to go.

I started last year at 205, and I'm starting this year at 203.9. Not a great track record for the year, but also evidence of my annual holiday collapse. I really need to get the good habits drilled in enough this year that I'm not in that position come November. As pointed out in last year's thread, I have new incentive this year to keep the weight off or face blood pressure medication.

I'll not be able to participate until I file for early retirement mid-year. Until then, I need to spend any available moment sitting on my fat ass driving people around for a pittance.

With the extra 500ish calories a day, I'm spiking at 187 which is not a downward or stable trend and means it might be a bit until 187 becomes a new maintenance goal, it at all, as I'm more concerned about general health improvement than weight at the moment. I'm trying not to redline my calorie intake every day but on the first week that's not working. Jogged steps was awesome though.

Had a crazy drop for the first week of the year. I did make some eating changes but also caught the flu. So I don't know how much that went into it. The eating changes were basically smaller portion sizes, and big reduction in carb/sugar intake. Didn't get to work out like I wanted to do to the flu, but hoping to start that back up this week. Flu diet, 1 star out of 5, would not recommend.

Touched a new low of 182. I'm not redlining my calories but I am still obsessing. I want to change that but I don't know how. I'm over a year of having a food centric lifestyle. Also, more fiddling with it. I decided to add aerobic walking to my goals and tracking. I've moved from 500 jogged steps a pop to 600 and 600 jogged steps isn't enough to get my heart/breathing going. However, my body doesn't do more, and my knees, in particular can get unhappy, so for now we start a weekly goal of 8 minutes a of aerobic walking.

I was expecting a large correction from being sick, but I was thrilled to just take a modest within-the-margin-of-error increase. Considering this past weekend was the worst I've eaten all year (due to a variety of factors), I don't expect it to be an ongoing trend.

I’m starting the year at 210.5, which is the highest I’ve been in the last couple years. A nagging injury has derailed my running cadence and my diet has been shit lately, but I’m hoping to improve on both.

Would love to get down to 200 at some point, but definitely have work to do.

Had kind of a fluke weigh-in because we went out to a big birthday dinner last night. I probably need to switch back to taking averages, but over time we'll see how the trend looks. Back on my rowing and jogging, as well as some weight training.

I'm not sure what to think. In 2+ years of following my weight I don't think I've had a month of constantly losing weight. I know that much of it is because I have been good after all the holiday related food and sloth. It's still a little odd.

Just a quick note about my experience when I lost 40lbs (down to 185) in 2022. Cold weather has now become my enemy. I live in Alabama, so before I lost weight I liked Autumn most, followed by Spring then Winter and finally Summer. Now the ranking is Spring first, then Summer, Autumn and finally Winter. The cold really bothers me now. Didn't realize 40lbs would make that much of a difference. On the plus side heat doesn't bother me nearly as much as before and I've been able to eat more without gaining weight in cold weather. Thanks to my body's efforts to warm itself, I can consume 10-15% more calories in a day and yet still not gain weight when the temps drop below 60 degrees.

Just wondering if you guys (especially those of you who live in cold climes) have noticed this as well.

From 270 to 185 and moving much slower than in my youth and with less of a padding layer irrespective of my weight, I definitely don't get as hot in the summer and get colder in the winter. I also got a hernia and bottom of my feet need more padded shoes. When I was young and thin I didn't get cold, except for prolonged exposure of my extremities. When I got fat I didn't get cold, except from prolonged exposure of my extremities. Now I'm not overweight but carry too much fat and I get friggen cold.

My hands didn't used to get cold. Somewhere is the last few years they have started to be cold during the winter. Not the rest of me and I'm not sure it really corresponds to losing 20 pounds but it's all I can really add.

January was very wet -- 15 precipitation days adding up to almost 8" of (mostly) rain. Normal for the month is 3". So, very little walking.

My Jan was probably helped by the two snowfalls because I'd much rather walk in the snow than in the rain.

1/8 - 188
1/28 - still 188, but I've lost most of that time to being sick and getting over a lung infection, so I'll take that as a win that I'm not heavier. Coughing counts as exercise, right?

The thought has crossed my mind that I could buy a chest freezer, and cut a head size hole in the lid so I could cold sculpt on the cheap.

Started Atkins diet on Jan 2nd at 252.
Down to around 244.7 sometime last week.
Think I'm gonna shoot for around 200. Maybe even 180.
Due to my medical conditions exercise is minimal to none. One of the reasons I like this diet.
Just had bloodwork done. Numbers all dropped compared to Dec.
A1c went from 7.4 to 7.
Average sugar went from around 256 for month of Dec to around 124 for month of Jan.
So off to a good start.

02/24/23 - 315.8 (lowest last several years)
12/31/22 - 326.5
03/26/22 - 368.9 (highest ever)

Lost this year: 4.7

All in all nearly a five-pound loss over the first month is great (and a healthy pace), but I'm a bit frustrated with inconsistency. I've really been trying to reduce my intake. There are many slip-ups and I'm not hard on myself, but I really thought I'd be doing better. (Rationale being that I dipped to 335.8 on Jan 3rd and am at 336 today.)

But I'll keep trying!

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Don't be. I can't speak for everyone but for calorie reduction combined with slowly increasing my activity over time worked for me. My weight jumped all over the place but over the course of a month snapshot it consistently moved down. Much more discouraging for me is how my life began to revolve around food (and still does) so I continue on a reduced intake. The good news for me is that I'm back up to 2700 calories a day. The bad news is my body is like "Um, you're missing 90 pounds, we need that back. You should be eating more." So over a year in, I'm still obsessive and haven't actually hit the lifestyle change I dream of.

Rare Sunday weigh-in because I'll be on the road tomorrow. This low reading probably won't hold, but nice to see anyway.
