I don't think you can. I do think that's one of the planned improvements for the next version of phpBB, however. Peacedog or Gedd (or many others, I'm sure) can speak on this topic with more authority, however.

If we *can* PM multiple folks with one message, I haven't figured out the mechanism.

Not that I know of. I'm sure there's a hack out there to enable it, but I'd rather wait and see what's in phpBB 2.2 before playing around with hacking it in.
