The U.S. Air Force has taken delivery of its first Beechcraft AT-6E Wolverine single-engine turboprop light attack aircraft. The service has said in the past that it could acquire up to three of these aircraft to support a program called the Airborne Extensible Relay Over-Horizon Network, or AEROnet, focused on developing a low-cost communications and data-sharing architecture to help allies and partners work together better during coalition operations.
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, announced the arrival of the AT-6E on Feb. 17, 2021. The AT-6E is a variant of the T-6 Texan II trainer from Beechcraft, a division of Textron, configured for light attack and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. The Air Force, as well as the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, already operate unarmed versions of the Texan II.

So the idea is that everyone else boards while the baddies are shooting at Jet Pack Guy?

Nah, they give em maltov cocktails and they rain down fire on the enemy boat deck.
Havoc ensues.

My brother pointed out something similar. I think it could work under certain situations, though. Also, it would probably be great in search and rescue.

I feel pretty certain I saw footage of a search and rescue using this technology. It was in a place where a helicopter's downdraft would make it too hard to get to the person they were rescuing (I think).

You can get to them without a problem. Getting them out still requires a helico. It does reduce the time it has to be over the mast and wires.

Yes - that's the one!
And yes, they need the helicopter to actually evacuate the person, but it still seemed like a good use of the technology.

Main problem will be fuel. I'd imagine endurance of this would be measured in minutes instead of hours. So either he deploys by jumping out of a helo... Or they land nearby and he jumps closer (rather than walking / climbing) which seems to be a really fancy way of getting around.
But weapons are not a bit problem... He has a helmet, so he can aim by looking. We had that since Blue Thunder.

Thinking on drones today I was wondering if the military had thought of airborne drone carriers? Make a large airborne drone full of small drones that can deploy in swarms. The mothership would be jet powered to get somewhere fast and safe then over or near target it would release the swarm. Those could be anything from camera drones to incendiary swarms or even ionic burst ones to take out power plants.

The military has begun experimenting with launching drones from aircraft, but it's probably the case that bombs, missiles, cruise missiles, etc are better (faster/stronger/heavier) at their particular jobs than drones would be.
The particular niche drones fill is (for the big ones) long loiter times and (for the small ones) airborne reconnaissance capability at the small-unit level. And of course they do it without risking a human pilot.
I have seen articles about pairing large drones with helicopters so that the drone carries addition air-to-ground missiles or even provides air-to-air "top cover."

All the cute robot videos are going to be very creepy when those things start being used malevolently by police states, as we know they will.

Artillery Team Filmed Through Army's New Augmented Reality Goggles
The U.S. Navy has successfully invented a special electronic device that is designed to stop people from talking. A form of non-lethal weapon, the new electronic device effectively repeats a speaker's own voice back at them, and only them, while they attempt to talk.
It was developed, and patented back in 2019 but has only recently been discovered, according to a report by the New Scientist.

It sounds interesting, but of limited utility. They mentioned crowd control. Are angry mobs really going to disperse if a dozen members suddenly can't talk? It's an interesting device, and it's worth the research. It could even lead to other innovations. But as it stands, it really seems like a solution in search of a problem.
I could see some utility on a 19th century battlefield, messing with the enemy officers, though.
But then I read this:
More intriguingly, as the patent alludes to, "by aiming AHAD system at a wall or corner, AHAD system can also project sound to the target surface such that audio appears to originate from the target."

It'll be used to prevent leaders from inciting the crowd. There are always a couple people on a soapbox whipping up the frenzy in a mob before they go wild. If you can stop them, the mob may not actually form.

That will work exactly once. After that, earplugs will be standard equipment (there is no indication I saw that it was anything other sound waves.) And I question whether it would be effective over the din of hundreds of people yelling against someone with a megaphone. With that level of noise, will you even notice one more voice?
