Trailer has my attention. Seems like it showing some respect for the original and taking some chances.

Without over the top comedy, it is not going to be a "real" Ghostbusters movie. The original one was comedy first before other things.
Really? I thought one thing that made the original Ghostbusters work was the fact that it had some genuine scares and dramatic moments and didn't play things too silly (marshmallow man aside). It wasn't until the sequel that things got turned up to 11 on the cartoony meter, which is the main reason I never really cared for the sequel.

Maybe, but the original came out three and a half decades ago in a different society with a different culture and different expectations.

Based just off the trailer it certainly doesn’t seem like they are going for the same comedic tone of the original, but Paul Rudd (the teacher in the trailer) is most well known for being a comedic actor. So at least there’s some potential for humor.

It may also he that they're bucking the trend of putting all the best jokes in the trailer.

But yeah, it's 2019 and everything gots to be real.

Might be missing where it was referenced earlier in the thread but Murray, Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver are all listed in the IMDB cast. Maybe everyone here already knows they will be in the movie and aren't discussing it but that's not the vibe I get from reading the thread.

Pretty sure there will be comedy and I can't wait.

That trailer awakened something in me that I didn't know was still there.

I didn't put too much thought into the new Ghostbusters film until I saw that trailer. It felt like a knee-jerk reaction to the over-the-top hate of the female Ghostbusters film, which was an ok movie that people hated because it wasn't great. But after that trailer I'm suddenly very excited to see the film.

The trailer gave me the impression that every scene used is from very early in the movie (like the first 20 minutes) - it's just the setup for the main story; stuff that they aren't worried about spoiling.

There is a scene of kids riding around in Ecto-1 accidentally shooting random buildings with proton accelerators. That's a suggestion that they're not going for something as serious as some people seem to think.

I wonder if we're going to get a new Ghostbusters game due to this. On the other hand, they did recently remaster the 2009 game that was often considered an unofficial 3rd sequel with all of the original cast.

Did you see this or is that a subtle way of saying Murray and Aykroyd aren't comedians? :)

It was actually a response to Kraken.

While I'm sure Akroyd and Murray will be in it, I don't think they'll be in it very much. At least not from the trailer we have now. It could be that they have a fair amount of screen time but there isn't even a hint that they're in it from the trailer.

It could be they simply don't want to spoil their appearances and want their screentime to be seen for the first time on the big screen.

As someone who never developed some deep love for the original, even though I loved the original SNL crew and I remember seeing the original film in the theater with my folks, this looks like it will be entertaining and forgettable, just as the two prior sequels have been. Just as with the first Star Wars trilogy (chronologically, at least), many people keep demanding that this film has to match up with their respective memories of the first film, which is truly impossible.

I watched the ~45 minute "The Movies that Made Us" feature on Netflix covering the original Ghostbusters last night, and I think I saw hints as to what this one will be about in the opening ~10 minutes or so. Namely, I didn't know that Dan Ackroyd wrote the original script and that he used his family's connection to spiritualism and ghosts here in America as a basis for how he came up with the story. You can read more here - I truly had no idea of any of this. Anyway, this movie (to me) looks like it might be a way to relate the small-town origins of his family's history as sort of prequel that's really a sequel.

Also, The Movies that Made Us is solid.

Ill wait on a Ghostbusters 2050. If they set it in the future imagine the tech and places and such in a sci-fi / cyberpunk / techno / dystopian / post apoc world.

This is apparently the original trailer. Wow. I remember trailers being a movie highlight in 1984. Something you looked forward to before the movie. I can't for the life of me see that experience watching this trailer again.

Humanbusters. Where the planet is run by ghosts and humans or a myth. The Humanbusters find humans and catch them. Sorta like Daybreak for ghosts :)

Well sure, after recent years of seeing trailers that are just quick cuts and loud music and explosions, who wouldn't be underwhelmed by 80's trailers?

Heh, for me it was bad dubbing and voice overs that made me wince. As you mention it, though, music probably is a big difference.

Oh, yeah. That looks great.

The thing about the original that nothing else has gotten right - at least from my view - is that it wasn't a comedy film. Not exactly. It was a horror film done comically. It was terrible things happening to and with funny people.

Looks great and as Octavious said it captures a lot of the feel of the original. I want to see this movie day one but I also don't want to have to go to the theater. I really like having movies available at home, even if I have to pay extra to get them. But this looks really good.
