Open floorplan is totally fine and might actually be advantage for some things, just lock up the power and the gold!

Thanks, I was wondering about that.coopasonic wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:52 pm Open floorplan is totally fine and might actually be advantage for some things, just lock up the power and the gold!
Awesome! I was looking at the World View from a fully zoomed out, overhead view where the lights don't blink at all. As soon as I zoomed in a bit, I could see the difference. Thanks!coopasonic wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:26 amThe easiest way I have seen to tell what is available is the blinking light on the region. Fast blink means nothing going on, slow blink means scheme in progress.

I started off with doorless low risk areas, but then I started thinking it was worth the little bit of extra time it takes for investigators to unlock them. Undecided.

Re: Evil Genius 2 World Domination
Some of the low risk stuff is where you want the investigators to waste their time. With the door they might wander past and miss the nothingness, also the doors slow down your minions as well. I will note for the record thatI actually have NOT tried the open floor plan personally, but it was in a tips list I saw and it makes sense to me It hadn't even occurred to me that some of the facilities are totally legal and may bore the investigators until they leave.

I've been figuring that those rooms are better off when there doesn't have to be a delay. OTOH, I figure that anywhere there is expensive or required equipment I'm going for reinforced and/or laser doors. I have no idea if that's the right strategy. I do love the idea of zoning a bit of power into my prison for an incinerator and making the other side my armory so my guards are right there if I get a prison break.

If you completely seal off a floor tile, do agents still burrow in from outside and up into it?coopasonic wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 3:52 pm Open floorplan is totally fine and might actually be advantage for some things, just lock up the power and the gold!
I had a few incidents in the original where I built out a power room but had a tile or two stuck behind equipment. No one could walk there, but no one was trapped either. Didn't think much of it. I discovered the developers didn't want anyone to cheat and seal off parts of the base ... I had to reload after the agent firebombed my power grid.

Re: Evil Genius 2 World Domination
Still playing, still really enjoying it. The time just slips by when playing this. Just poof...gone.
Last I spoke, I said I was close to my 2nd henchman...yeah that's not it...was going up against a crime lord. Still on my 1st henchman, and stuck in level 2 of research. Not when that will open up to level 3 [ have a minor spoiler of what to look for].
I have been doing some open floor layouts: barracks, armory, mess halls, infirmary are all some open floor design. Namely the floor tiles end and one begins. I've placed an armory table near the front of my lair, with a small barracks nearby for sleeping. The armory is also at a choke point of deeper access to my lair and upper levels.
-i've really had to move things around my base as I've expanded. I've ended up moving my vault and energy into deeper parts of my lair, giving it more security.
-disappointed that no agents have tested my bases traps yet. Really looking forward to that.
- base expansion into heavier rock is expensive, but as you gain level 2 criminal networks the cash starts coming in some more.
-i've also added little mess halls, sleeping quarters and incinerators near the casino area so those employees dont have to travel far.
-tip: make sure to have plenty of incinerators, even if building a small area to house it, nestled it in another area. Minions pass by body bags get hit with serious morale pains.
-been adding in the air conditioners in the barracks and mess halls. Seen people sitting in them at times.

Those are some great tips! I've created a text file for tips and pasted those in there
Regarding doors:
From this, I'm thinking that Sabotuers would be going after my power room, so I used a reinforced door there, but for my vault room I should use the laser door to block Rogues. Or is it not as simple as that?

I saw that, but it didn't register that the room could be converted into part of the lair. I just thought you had figured out some clever way to install traps in the casino, which meant I was valiantly trying to lay corridor spaces with floor traps in the casino.coopasonic wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 3:56 pmcoopasonic wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:24 am I need to take the time to turn the back half of the casino into a trap corridor.

One advantage of open floor plan, room object can use corridor space for access (indicated by the green feet):

Re: Evil Genius 2 World Domination
I'd give it a thumbs up. I don't remember enough of the old game to compare the current one with it. I'm really liking the gameplay in Easy difficulty, it is (so far) more of a building game. Unlike my first game, I'm going slow on this, mostly because I keep spending all the money I gain
Here's a look at my efforts to convert one of the three casino rooms to part of my lair. The old entry door is at the top right. I've added reinforced and laser doors and a guard room to confront any bad guys, err, good guys coming in. On the left side of the shot you can see my latest combo, a barracks plus mess hall on an open floor plan.
And if you have a few extra spaces, why not add lockers?

Re: Evil Genius 2 World Domination
Hmm, I've built several incinerators in my lair, but now I'm wondering. The morale hit is only when there is still a body bag, right? Not once it has been scooped up into that big gun looking thing? So I'm wondering how much bang for the buck I'm getting with multiple incinerators. I guess it depends on how quickly the body bags get taken up. Perhaps with multiple incinerators a minion doesn't have to walk as far to dump the body, so they are back into general use that much quicker. Hmm. I guess that makes sense.
Speaking of making sense, anyone using these functions much? The prioritizing or disabling of roles. About the only one I use is to try to make sure that the security cameras are manned.

Lots of great tips here. I never played the original, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I am finding my time just getting sucked up in this game. I'd been flirting with some open floor plan rooms, and now that I see what y'all are doing, I almost want to restart. I've started putting my power one level up hoping that shields it from saboteurs. My stairs are way in the back so it would take a while to get to them. Any thoughts?

That brings up a question. How do I know I have enough technicians? Aside from going around and clicking on objects to see how they are doing.

Re: Evil Genius 2 World Domination
I'm experiencing some frustrations with the game. Right now I'm in a weird situation. I've set up my incoming corridor with several traps and guard stations. The problem is that most attacks are one of two kinds. One type is the investigators, they get caught up in the very first trap, the guards respond and they are hunted down before they even reach the traps.
The other are the rouges, lead by Symmetry. They somehow bypass all the traps; the first I here about their raid is that gold is disappearing. In the first few raids they would get into disguise after grabbing the gold and run almost out of the building before I'd catch them. Now I'm smart enough to send my genius and his henchman towards the vault, since they see through the disguises and I can kill off all the rogues. All, that is, except Symmetry , she always manages to escape. At least now I'm taking fewer casualties.
Be sure to look at those reddit advanced hints I posed above, some of those are really helpful. The games doesn't always explain things very well

OK, got pass the Symmetry side mission. Turns out I just had to endure her raiding me five times. I never was going to kill her apparently. Anyway by the last couple of raids I'd stop her and her folks cold, no money was lost and I had few casualties. With that side mission done I can now try another one.

And after 35 hours, I'm done for now. I've run into a game-breaking bug. During a main campaign mission, I'm suddenly unable to build at all, or sell items, or basically do anything with the build menu.
Never mind, I found the issue. I had build an item that blocked access to another item that was needed to complete the campaign objective. It just wasn't highlighted as a issue, but I found it. So I soldier on!

I felt like I was pushing the game main objective too quickly without hitting the side plots and that the game was getting out of synch, so I started over after moving on to the third set up minion unlocks. Whoop! Turns out those side plots are way friggen harder than advancing the main objectives. I chose what I assumed was the easiest at +$25,000. Wow, it cleaned my clock. Took me until mid February to bring it down on Easy and I am way short on minions. Knowing when to advance the game seems to be the key to... advancing the game... If you let the game push you just because objectives are available you will get kicked in the teeth. I guess I'm used to games like this holding my hand nowadays when it comes to moving forward.

I'd gotten to the point where I was just researching everything because I still didn't have the tier 3 items available yet. I don't know if I was researching too quickly or advancing the story too slowly. Either way I was starting to find the game to be something of a treadmill with no real payoffs.

Yeah, they really made Tier 3 research deep in to the game, making you wonder what's up with advancing the game. This is ironcally part of starting over, so I could see what's up with stories outside of the main story. I also went so far as to look up spoilers for what triggers the 3rd tier. I was right there when I reset, though you have to trigger specific side stories, for which I had accumulated like 10 or 12.coopasonic wrote: ↑Mon Apr 05, 2021 11:42 am Either way I was starting to find the game to be something of a treadmill with no real payoffs.
