The term “straight-line winds” is used to describe ground-level winds that come out of a thunderstorm and do not have rotation. If these winds travel at speeds that exceed 57 mph, then the storm is classified as a severe thunderstorm. Storms with severe straight-line winds can also have hail and tornadoes.

Straight-line winds can cause considerable damage because these winds often do not let up. Straight-line winds will push objects over, all in the same direction as the wind is blowing.

The lack of rotation, or spin, in these straight-line winds allows meteorologists to differentiate damage from tornadic winds. Tornadoes scatter objects all over because they rotate so quickly.

Anyway, for us today it's a very strong wind from the south bringing near record heat and the chance of afternoon thundershowers. Tomorrow brings a "cool" front with days of rain and slightly cooler days.

My son managed to dodge raindrops riding his bike to and from school (there were lapses in the rain at both times). This morning he still rode his bike to school, mentioned before leaving that it was raining harder...I pointed out that wasn't rain, it was snow (actually mixed, a bit later it was all snow).

You haven't been cold until you've been to Muskegon MI. The wind off Lake MI never lets up and winter hangs on full-strength through March, at least. Last week was a bad time for my coat's zipper to give up the ghost.

Similar here. It's usually expected here for winter to hang around mid-April these days. Cold weather is also made worse due to dampness.

The annoying bit is that I have clothes everywhere. I normally have 'comfy' clothes and 'public' clothes, and I switch between the two sets as needed. The other goes goes over the back of a chair in the bedroom. it doesn't look great, but it's not that big of an eyesore. When the weather warms, I switch from long pants and long sleeves to shorts and short sleeves (or sleeveless.)

This year, the temperature keeps jumping back and forth between too warm for winter clothes and too cold for summer clothes, so I have to keep all four in circulation, and three at a time piled on the back of the chair, which looks like ass.

Likewise with blankets - they're generally either on the bed or in storage. Now it is changing every two days, and I can't leave them in either place.

I cleaned up my yard of all the winter storm debris this weekend, in order to prepare for the first mow. Now my yard is covered in snow, though I'm still a bit from shoveling or salting the drive depth. It's supposed to be 80 by the weekend and freezing by next weekend again. I should have been a condo owner. Stupid condo fees scared me away though.

Winter is over for us. It's been in the eighties for the past few days and the oncoming cold front will only drop the daytime highs into the upper seventies.

They say higher elevations in the interior could see some snow tonight/tomorrow from a nor'easter that will form overnight. Shouldn't affect me apart from being a generally nasty day. All in all, we're having a pretty average spring.

its been a little cooler in the mornings and the humidity has dropped. Milder is the word. By the end of the week it will be back up to near mid 90s and bad humidity. But this cool weather has been nice. I can sleep better.

Had to get up early this morning and both me and Buster the chihuahua are chilled. He is shivering even. But it is nice...rather it be like this than a sauna.
