Forecasters from the National Weather Service’s regional office in New Jersey say there is the potential for a storm system to develop in the Great Lakes region and impact the eastern United States early next week, sometime from late Monday into Tuesday, when many people will be traveling for Thanksgiving holiday gatherings.

Much uncertain remains this far out and it’s too early for forecasters to know whether the storm — if it does head this way — will impact the Garden State and whether it will bring snow or rain, said Jonathan O’Brien, a meteorologist at the weather service office.

“We will be watching it closely, but at this point, it’s really hard to have any confidence (in the forecast for early next week). It’s still too early to say,” O’Brien noted Tuesday afternoon.

Historically, Boston sees its first accumulating snow on 11/28 (although I can remember storms as early as Halloween). No matter; I finished raking today, so bring it on.

I was in Wisconsin over the weekend and was not amused to find my car covered in snow while I was retrieving the last of the beer reserves. One of the guys wasn't drinking, so brought him a snowball instead.

Three years ago we had 6" on Halloween. The past couple of years have been mild.

The fact that I can remember it means it was less than five years ago, so it might have been the same storm.

Quite possibly. I thought it was going to be a "Halloween is canceled" night, but the snow stopped around 4 pm and kids flooded the streets. The following year, there was one guy pulling a wagon carrying a portable fire pit...unnecessary since it was sunny mid-60's.

USA Today
The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning until Sunday morning on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The warning remains in effect from 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Sunday as up to 12 inches or more of snow is expected on the island. NWS also warns residents to stay indoors as forecasters predict winds gusting over 100 mph.

CNN
An atmospheric river -- a plume of moisture, similar to a river, that streams in off the Pacific Ocean and brings extreme rains -- is unleashing flooding rainfall of up to a foot and several feet of snow on the West Coast.

The storm began in Washington this weekend, where it created unstable conditions and led to at least one avalanche in the region. Now it's meandering down the coast, first soaking people in the Bay area Sunday and now unleashing extreme rainfall on the central California coast.

San Francisco has already received more than 2 inches of rain with this system.

Meanwhile all of Colorado is in a drought, with over two-thirds of the state classified as "severe" or worse. Denver recorded its latest first measurable snowfall on record, by far, on Dec. 10th (previous record was set on 11/21/1934). Prior to that we went over 6 months with less than 2" of total precipitation, another record.

At least western slopes are supposed to get some significant snowfall from these Pacific storm systems this week.

And tomorrow we are supposed to get a wind storm with wind gusts up to 90mph. Local news is telling people to take down any Christmas lights or decorations that they had put up.

I went to college in Alamosa and went skiing at Wolf Creek on those western slopes. Today they are noting 51 inches at the summit and 40 inches midway. I remember times I was there that they were reporting a base of over 100 inches. The place was quite a drive to reach however.

Meanwhile, somehow I have been convinced to give up my nice Central Florida low eighties and sunshiny weather to go to, sigh, New Jersey next week. I can only hope for decent driving weather.

Just shoveled a foot of snow off my driveway...that sucked. They closed school (which is a rarity for Utah), but Mrs. Skinypupy still has to drive all the way across town to get to work. Bah.

With her at work, me in Zoom meetings from 9-3, and the kids off school, it's pretty much going to be Lord of the Flies at my house by this afternoon.

Nearly 70 mph winds last night...and my Xmas decorations seem to have survived intact. Why is it that when we have these massive wind storms, it's on a garbage night? Fortunately I'm not at the end of downwind, I didn't put out the trash until this morning and then got bonked in the head when the lid on the recycling bin flew open while I bent down to pick up some trash that escaped.

Im not sure my weather pic updates for others. It does for me and should show it as the new forecasts come out. But just in case Ill post it again .

Looks like we're in for a turn. Its decided its time for winter and next week the high and low drops nearly 30 degrees in one day and goes below freezing at night and will see a dusting a snow supposedly. And it rains all this week with two different days of severe weather. 5" of rain expected.

8.4" (21.4 cm) of #snow in the last 24 hours brings December's total to 202.1", which makes it the third snowiest month on record here (back to 1970).

A spot of sunlight peaked through the clouds this morning, but it won't last long with more snow on the way.

I'm sitting in the parking lot of a Walmart in New Smyrna Beach and it's 85 outside, sunshiny and with just a few little puffy clouds. That's about 12 degrees warmer than our average this time of year and it's supposed to last until the new year.
