Yeah, the attention to detail is particularly impressive. I think we may be entering a new era of game adaptations, where the efforts are actually quite good, if The Last Of Us is any indication.

If they go full Bethesda they'll keep bloopers in the show.

This is old news now, but I thought it was interesting to see that the show will be considered canon, alongside the games.
Amazon also announced that the series will be part of the same canon as the video games.
Amazon recently showed a trailer behind closed doors that revealed the series would take place in Southern California and that it would adhere tightly to the games' visual and narrative style. Not much is known about the story or characters, though.

I am way too excited for this. I had never looked at the pics posted previously. Between Witcher and The Last of Us, I now think awesome video game to series adaptations are possible... I really should not get my hopes up but here we are.

Which is, funnily enough, an area that is very well established in the series, and has a ton of canonical lore - but is something that not one of Bethesda's games have touched on (while every single canon non-Bethesda game has been set there.)

Fallout First Look: This Is How the World Ends—With a Smiling Thumbs-Up

Lucy, one of the lead characters (played by Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell), has no clue. She has lived her entire life inside a subterranean vault, where every need and want has been satisfied while generations and generations await the day when it is safe to surface.

When a crisis forces Lucy to venture above on a rescue mission, she finds that the planet above remains a hellscape crawling with giant insects, voracious mutant animal “abominations,” and a human population of sunbaked miscreants who make the manners, morals, and hygiene of the gunslinging Old West look like Downton Abbey. “The games are about the culture of division and haves and have-nots that, unfortunately, have only gotten more and more acute in this country and around the world over the last decades,” Nolan tells Vanity Fair for this exclusive first look.

Lucy is nice, but Lucy is naive. In the Fallout universe, the human beings fortunate enough to ride out the apocalypse in underground communities only had that option available to them because they had money. Forcing doe-eyed Lucy out into this sadistic, Darwinian remnant of civilization opens the door for Fallout to engage in some social satire as well as action and adventure.

[snip]

Fallout is leavened by the same twisted sense of humor that made the video games so appealing. The ubiquitous logo of Lucy’s people, the Vault Dwellers, is a winking cartoon who perpetually flashes a giant smile and the thumbs-up sign. This “Vault Boy” iconography originated in the games and was intended as an ironic, tone-deaf contrast to the hardscrabble existence of those who endure on the surface. Nolan and Joy’s determination to maintain that mordant comedy was the key to making the world work as a series, says game-maker Todd Howard
Created by a Nolan, starring Walton Goggins and Michael Emmerson, and with a solid grasp of both the things that made the games work (at least originally), it has a lot of promise. Time will tell.

More images in the spoiler tags, including a look at locations, a ghoul (Goggins), and a special vehicle.

This. Right now it looks a lot like Fallout. Why would we want a Fallout show that didn't look like Fallout?

Also, the article places this in 2296, making it the latest Fallout content (chronologically) by nine years:

2102: Fallout 76
2161: Fallout
2241: Fallout 2
2277: Fallout 3
2281: Fallout: New Vegas
2287: Fallout 4
2296: Fallout show

It's more that Brisco County Jr was a cheesy comedy. Fallout (when it's good) is a dark story with ironic humor for contrast.

I like both as well. I don't want a light, comedic Fallout, but I also don't want a dark and ironic Farscape.

I don’t know if this will be any good or not, but it certainly looks good and true to the Fallout universe based upon these photos. Given the checkered history of video game adaptations, I have my doubts, but I’m certainly willing to give this a shot.

All Wife knows about Fallout is Galaxy News Radio. Somehow I was able to rip the MP3 files from Fallout 3 and put a bunch of songs in my music collection. When one comes up in random rotation I explain the context, and it's new to her every time.

I hope the movie will have an appropriate '40s to '50s era soundtrack.

Four and three-quarters stars.

As one of the curmudgeons who's disappointed with where Bethesda took Fallout (dead horse, I know, but I'll always be disappointed), I'll admit that for what this is, it has the components to be good and looks to be in the spirit of the Bethesda games in a positive sense. I could say "but I'd rather have something based on FO1/2", but we're already getting a new Mad Max film....

I'm mostly right there with you. They took a handful of minor quirks that the originals had, and turned those into the whole basis of the games. It wasn't bad with Fallout 3, but Fallout 4 pushed it too far, and Fallout 76 was completely off the rails.

The Big Fallout TV Show Interview With Jonathan Nolan, Walton Goggins, and More
Prime Video's Fallout TV series finally recieved its first trailer at CCXP and it gave us our best look yet at the adaptation of the beloved video game franchise from Bethesda. To learn more, IGN was part of a roundtable with many of the people involved in the show and they shared so much more about what fans can expect when the series premieres on April 12, 2024.

So, grab your favorite Nuka-Cola and get ready to read all about Fallout from executive producer and director Jonathan Nolan, executive producer and co-showunner Graham Wagner, and series stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins.

Alongside so many other topics, this crew touched upon honoring the video games, if there will be a nod to Bethesda's beloved bugs and glitches, how they view this series as their 'Fallout 5,' how they are planning the future of the series, what Todd Howard's involvment was, and so much more.

When you're done, also be sure to check out our full breakdown of the Fallout trailer to uncover all the secrets we've found so far!
It was interesting to read that Nolan actually played the games back in the day.

Oh believe me, it's not for lack of trying. I've given every single one of them a very dedicated 10-15 hour try. I did finish FO3, but only because I was spending a ton of time in DC for work and it was cool running around the same places in the game that I was IRL.

There are two genres that almost immediately make me lose interest in any game: post-apocalyptic and zombies/mutants. Since that's the entire crux of the FO games, I bounced off them pretty hard.

The store shelves in one shot had some plastic jack-o-lanterns. At least they're paying attention to detail (the war was in late October.)

In the scene with the ragtag group of people attacking the BOS, they were carrying an NCR flag. There was also a sign for a destroyed Shady Sands library, which was the NCR capital. Since this is after all of the Fallout games, looks as if the NCR has fallen on hard times.

I utterly suck at all real-time games, and action games in particular, but I've always made an exception for Fallout. I suck at it, too, but I die a thousand deaths and bulldog my way through because I like exploring the Wasteland (esp. Fallout 4, whose southern boundary was less than five miles north of my house). A TV series will let me enjoy the world without having to kill my way through it.

Fallouts 1 and 2 (and Tactics, of course) were both turn-based, as I'm sure you know. Both still very playable today, amazingly (and I typically have a low tolerance for going back to OG games like this from yesteryear).

Jones Soda, Prime Video, Kilter Films, Bethesda Game Studios Announce New Soda
Jones Soda, a craft soda known for its user-submitted photo labels, has announced Fallout Nuka-Cola Victory, a special-release flavor in its rotating series in collaboration with Prime Video, Kilter Films and Bethesda Game Studios.

Nuka-Cola Victory is inspired by fan demand for a flavor true to the video game series, “Fallout,” from Bethesda Game Studios. Created in celebration of the new streaming series about the game universe on Prime Video, Jones chose the peach-mango flavor based on user-submitted suggestions that might be found in the post-apocalyptic world of the streaming series. Previously, Jones has partnered on a limited run of Nuka-Cola Quantum craft soda, an in-real-life (IRL) beverage based on the “Fallout 4” game release. Nuka-Cola Victory builds on this collaboration with a new flavor and will have nationwide distribution in all retailers who carry the Jones special-release rotating flavor.
