Am I the only one that hates head crabs?

Post by Redfive »

They are the only game monster that makes me stress. Maybe that means they're a classic, but I hate fighting them with a passion! I always wind up using too much ammo to kill them as I desperately try to take them out BEFORE they start jumping at my face--once that happens I lose them and turn in circles spraying gunfire in all directions.

Am I alone here? What's the trick to dealing with them effectively?

Crowbar. Just time the swing for mid-jump. It's very satisfying to nail the bastards in mid-air.

Though those new poison ones really sucked!

Yeah, I've been using the crowbar for the man-catcher thingies but the head crabs I've tried to shoot.

Hate them with a passion....especially the poison ones. I really hate seeing that zombie with 5-6 of the poison ones on him cuz I know I'm in for some "lacerations" and "antidote administered". On the normal ones, 2 plugs with the glock do it for me usually. I found a disturbing abundance of ammo in the game so I'm usually not too concerned about wasting 9mm. I'm playing "normal" difficulty if that makes a difference.

Redfive, I assume you're playing it now. I am too. I'm on Highway 17 at the moment.

spoiler

I'm in the airboat on the river trying to get out right now. Really good game so far.

How can you hate Lamar? He's the second best character in the game! (Dog is number one)
I'm special!

You move through the game pretty quick compared to yours truly. I started HL2 about a week ago and I'm only a few levels ahead of you. The airboat is pretty cool. It does seem odd that you can drive it over almost any surface though. I seem to remember complaints about it when the game first came out. That is one thing that is way different than HL1 is the use of vehicles. Yeah, you could drive the rail car in HL1 but that is nothing like this. The vehicle controls for me are awkward to get used to. Without giving anything away, the use of the "shift" key later in the game is what I have most difficulty with. I can't get my pinky on it while trying to control direction and fire at the same time. I want to plug in my gamepad or joystick to control it and then go back to the keyboard when I'm out of the vehicle.

Chris.....you named the headcrabs? I liked "dog" too if we are talking about the same thing.

You know what the most annoying monster I ever fought was?

Those floating heads in Doom 3. And the spiders. Jesus, those sucked.
If I had a sig, would you read it?

Spoiler if you haven't played Half Life 1:

Most Annoying to me.....even though I saw it all of 1 time.........the big baby in HL. I'm sorry, I just couldn't help but laugh when I saw it. Bad monster ending to a great title.

I really hated those Flyers in Half Life 1 as well.

I just got Doom 3 yesterday. Looks like I'll have to watch out for floating heads.
