Congratulations to my fellow humans and to sympathetic Dee.
And my apologies to the 1 Population that just bit it because I never fulfilled my Personal Agenda.

Wow, I can't believe the humans won. That was a fantastic game to watch.
That's no reason to cry. One cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad.

Oh crap, wait.
The Cylons might still win.
The Population is at 4.
If the emergency jump roll is 6 or less, the humans lose 3 population, leaving them with 1. If Grund's unfulfilled Personal Agenda is -1 Population, that happens at the end of the game and it counts towards the human team losing.

Ooooh. We have a 75% chance of winning. Nice play, turtle. I don't think any of us expected you to be so devious. I bet Lars feels like he was just shot in the face. Again.Turtle wrote:Oh crap, wait.

At least now we have a 50/50 shot at winning. 62.5% if someone has calculations, though I don't think the humans have an engineering card available to us.Lars wrote:....... and here I was, thinking "Finally, I play Executive Order on someone, and it works out! Well, no. Or knowing that Lars has strategic planning, I'd upgrade that to "maybe".Grundbegriff wrote:My agenda wouldn't/shouldn't have prevented a jump. We would've done exactly what we in fact did. Right?El Guapo wrote:If only someone had warned everyone about this. Oh wait:

Probably the best course of action would've been to wait until -1 pop to jump if possible. With Lars having stategic planning the calculation changes a bit, but with only the (relatively rare) -1 fuel crisis killing us, probably still would've been best to hold out at least until my turn before trying the jump (to see if the next crisis had a jump activation).

The Final Roll is....
5 + 2 = 7
Humans and Cylon Dee really do win!
Of course, the Humans all think they can rest easy after this board game victory, but little do they know, "Winter is coming."

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
Let me just say it again: Thanks for running these games, Turtle. I can only imagine the kind of time you put into all this. I can't believe that we've been playing this since April. In that time frame, I've gone from being unemployed with an unsure direction on what to do with my life, to taking a bunch of classes to learn how to deal table games in a casino, and being hired by a casino, all before this game ended. That's a nice chunk of time.Turtle wrote:The Final Roll is....

Actually I believe that our destination for the game was Kobol (an interim destination on the show) rather than Earth. Theoretically I think we'd then play another game with the destination of New Caprica.Grundbegriff wrote:I claim Australia.

You Are Not A Cylon - Personal Goal -
Stand and Fight: 10 or more raiders.
Action: Reveal this card if 10 or more raiders are on the main game board. Then if distance is 6 or less, shuffle 1 You Are Not a Cylon card into the Loyalty deck and draw a new Loyalty Card.
If you are a human player and this card has not been revealed by the end of the game, lose: 1 Population

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
Wow, that's a brutal Goal. Mine was much less nasty (have no nukes).
By the way, the Destinations I pulled were...
(first set)
Gas Giant
Distance: 1
The Admiral may destroy 1 viper to gain 1 fuel.
Tylium Planet
Distance: 1
Lose 1 Fuel. The Admiral may risk 1 raptor to roll a die. If 3 or higher, gain 2 fuel. Otherwise destroy 1 raptor.
(second set, end of game)
Tylium Planet
Distance: 1
Lose 1 fuel. The Admiral may risk 1 raptor to roll a die. If 3 or higher, gain 2 fuel. Otherwise, destroy 1 raptor.
Cylon Raiders
Distance: 3
Lose 2 fuel and place 3 raiders behind (sector 4) Galactica.
I chose against Tylium Planet both times; the first time, they were both the same distance and the other option was guaranteed to be +1 net fuel, and the second time was 3 distance for 2 fuel as opposed to 1 distance for maybe +1 fuel/maybe -1 fuel.

Yeah, and Boomer's agenda was particularly brutal for a pilot to get. The problem is that not only does there have to be 10 raiders on the game board, BUT then one of our pilots has to use their action to reveal their agenda instead of, say, killing raiders.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
There was actually a juncture where we had 8 or 9 on the board-- or about to be on the board-- and in theory I could've held out to fulfill this. But at the time, it would've made me look very cylonic to decline to help clear the mess, and appearing cylonic was not a good idea. I think I decided at that point that losing 1 pop to just ignore the personal goal was a decent trade. So naturally the game comes down to 1 pop.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
That was actually the problem I had with Starbuck's Devastation agenda. I'd used both nukes plausibly, although without the personal goal I probably wouldn't have used the second, but there were basically no chances to reveal the agenda without hurting us more by doing so. Then she got killed and cost us a morale anyway (the penalty for not revealing was -1 morale, which at the time looked like the most likely way for us to lose the game).El Guapo wrote:Yeah, and Boomer's agenda was particularly brutal for a pilot to get. Honestly, killing Starbuck was probably a benefit overall to the humans. Apollo's passive ability was more useful IMO and with the Goal gone there was no temptation to reveal it instead of doing something more useful.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
That's my issue with the personal agendas generally - it just seems so costly to require an action to reveal them in addition to the costs of achieving them. Seems like it should be a free action to reveal once achieved, or maybe cost a movement instead of an action.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
I think Personal Goals are necessary for play by forum and email versions of this game due to the digital tracking of everything everyone does.
When at the tabletop, you're busing doing all the work of handling boardgame mechanics and taking your turn that you can miss some suspicious things. But, on the forum you just have to go back a few pages and get an exact breakdown of who put what into the skill check 10 turns ago.
Anyway, I'll be starting A Game of Thrones 2nd edition sometime early January.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Boardgame 3 - Exodus
That's fair enough. My issue with them is more them requiring an action to reveal - otherwise I'm fine with them.
Really, I think our big break this game was getting Legendary Discovery when we did. If we hadn't gotten it, and hadn't gotten it when Grund was both out of the brig and had enough cards to pass it single-handedly, then we would've had to go through another whole jump cycle. And our odds of doing that without getting killed by crisis or cylon fleet is pretty close to zero.
And thanks Turtle for running these - they're a lot of fun.

Looking forward to that, I'll have to brush up on the rules again, it's been a while. Of course, I think I'm pretty far down on the list of eligible people, maybe I'll volunteer to assist one of the other players who have never played before.Turtle wrote:Anyway, I'll be starting A Game of Thrones 2nd edition sometime early January.

One other question: Scoop / Helo only became a cylon at the sleeper phase, right? He was acting suspicious enough to merit a mutiny I thought, but then he emo-ed in favor of the mutiny, which made me think him probably human.
Assuming so, it worked out pretty well that he drew the cylon card in the sleeper phase.
