RIP Louis Gossett Jr

Post by McNutt »

Dead at 87.

His performance in An Officer and a Gentleman was one of the best ever. Even when he made sillier movies like Iron Eagle he was great.

Diggstown might be my favorite of his movies.

Wow... haven't thought about him in a while and didn't occur to me that he was so old. Iron Eagle may have been cheesy, but I loved those movies as a kid. I can't say that I ever saw any of his more serious stuff, but his action movies were fun.

If you guys haven't seen An Officer and a Gentleman, I highly recommend it. It's an excellent story and Louis Gossett Jr. is insanely good as the tough drill sergeant.

The AP article has an insight into the racism that he faced.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

I'd forgotten he was in An Officer and a Gentleman. It's been a long time since I watched it. But I remember liking it.

Same with Enemy Mine.

Enemy Mine is one of my favorite films. This one hit me. He is one of my all time favorite actors. So many things he did I loved. My wife loved his movies too. And yes she loved An Officer and a Gentleman. I always think of him in Firewalker with Chuck Norris for some reason. It stood out to me over the years. I doubt anyone else ever saw it lol.

RIP.

I saw Firewalker a long, long time ago. I remember thinking Gossett and Norris were a great combo. I'm hesitant to watch it again though in case it was the kind of thing only a 12-year-old McNutt would enjoy.

Damn, he was front-and-center in a lot of my favorite movies from The Olden Days. Iron Eagle was a favorite, and one of the few films my father and I would watch together (he was friends with the main stunt pilot, Art Scholl, and had flown with him on occasion.)

And don't forget that he was the voice of the Half-Life 2 Vortigaunts!
