Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
My machine won't download. Server is not responding. I turned of my AV to see if that interfered. Still no good. Restarted the F@H. Still no good. I'll let it try for a while, but this may be a bust.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
That's currently normal for CPU work units, and periodically for GPU units. Does your setup have a discrete GPU, and is your F@H client set to at least Medium? (Light uses only CPU, disabling the GPU.)
They hope to get the CPU WUs going in sufficient numbers again soon, but currently there are not anywhere near enough WUs for all the CPUs who have been volunteered.

Yes and I only chose light, If I go medium, I'm likely to only turn this one while idle and maybe not then. My fan is louder than I'd like and I don't want it going off all night long. Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
I had the same issue with the fan, and worked around it by installing MSI Afterburner. It lets you set a max target temp for the GPU (if your GPU supports the metrics--my GeForce 1060 does), which lets me effectively limit the fan speed to ~50%.LordMortis wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 8:47 amYes and I only chose light, If I go medium, I'm likely to only turn this one while idle and maybe not then. With this setup and F@H set to Full, I've been able to use the PC for my normal work and gaming and not have it 'feel' or sound any different.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
FWIW, my RTX2070 with twin fans (but no waterblock, that's CPU only) runs at 72C with it chewing on FAH at medium. I can go full fan on it and bring down the temp, but given the minimum "target temp" in Asus GPU Tweak II is 65C... I'd imagine even if I leave the fan off it wouldn't heat up that much.

Right at the moment F@H has more power than the fastest single supercomputer (SUMMIT). 474 PetaFlops.
Gaming? Nope, I'm into Bitwig.

That's old info--it's over an exaflop now. More raw compute power than the top 100 supercomputers combined.

We've now passed 500 work units as a team, 5.5 million points, and will likely crack the top 5,000 teams tomorrow (out of nearly 250,000 teams).

I can't seem to get work units from the server reliably. I keep getting timeouts, or "no work for you".

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
It's been hit-or-miss, but has improved significantly in the past week or so. I still have periods of idle time, but rarely for both my CPU and GPU at the same time lately, and generally both are going within an hour or three of finishing a WU.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
I know it doesn't mean anything in the long run, but how on earth do the credits work? Why does Kasey have 173 WU completed, yet less than half the credit of Formix with 45 WU completed?

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
WUs vary greatly in size, so the points received don't necessarily correlate across WUs. CPU WUs, for example, average around 1/20th of GPU WUs for me.gbasden wrote:I know it doesn't mean anything in the long run, but how on earth do the credits work? Thanks for clarifying! I just assumed all WUs were the same.

It also varies depending on which project they come from. And I believe depending on your hardware.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
Mainly because those are CPU WUs. I can't seem to get any GPU WUs recently.
A CPU WU, for me, is about 2K to 5K pts. A GPU WU is worth roughly twice that.
If GPU and CPU are both going full-tilt, I should be doing 140K points a day. I'm doing 14K a day on CPU alone.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
My CPU WUs are similar to Kasey's, but my GPU units range from around 40k to 90k points. I believe they size the WUs to your hardware. (GeForce 1060 6GB overclocked in my case.)

I love how our team has reached a point where every hour we are turning in several WUs.

Not coming for anyone! I had a ton of units into SETI@home, and the computer sitting idle just doesn't seem right. Happy to help the team!

Achievement unlocked: 1000 WUs turned in for the team. 11 million points. We've broken into the top 4,000 teams, out of nearly 250k.

We get frequent enough power drops and windows updates to take care of that.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
Can anyone point me at some clear step-by-step Folding@Home For Dummies instructions for how to manually restart the client? Despite selecting the start-at-login option when I install it, it doesn't start up automatically after a Windows restart and anything I've tried to start it myself fails to load up the existing configuration. Twice now I've had to resort to uninstalling the client while preserving the data, then reinstalling it to get it back up and running.

Re: F@H now for Corona-Virus
I suspect that the problem is that I'm running it on my user account but since I have to run the installer as admin, it is configuring it to automatically start when I log in to my admin account, but I haven't bothered to confirm that yet.

Formix, you ok? I noticed that in the past few days you've dropped about a million points from where you 'should' be based on the trend from the week before.

I dunno, I got a couple new games that I intend on breaking in this week that will lower my PPD. I am still working though so I'll be able to let it run for a good 18 hours a day unimpeded. I'm definitely glad I put water cooling solutions in here though.

Whatever you have in that machine is pretty hardcore. I went half the day with no WUs, but you still caught and passed me up by a wide margin incredibly quickly.BooTx wrote:I dunno, I got a couple new games that I intend on breaking in this week that will lower my PPD. I can't seem to get WUs either. I"ve got a 2080 in my box, but it's idle most of the time.
