[PC] The Last of Us Part 1
I missed this from last week - coming to PC on 3/3/23
I did try searching but I think the title of the game is specifically designed to foil search engines.
Of all the Playstation exclusives, this is one that I've really been looking forward to playing.

I want to play it, but there's no way in hell I'm paying 60 bucks for it.

Sold! I'd say I'll wait until it comes onto the PS Pass system, but OMG they haven't added a good game since the first launch. Probably be 2 years before it sniffs that service.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
Delayed:
Let's get right to it: We initially announced The Last of Us Part I PC release would be March 3, but we've decided to push its launch date out by just a few weeks; it will now be released on March 28. We at the studio have been completely blown away by the outpouring of love and support for The Last of Us these last few weeks. Hearing your love for the HBO adaptation, seeing your beautiful Photo Mode shots, and learning about how the world and characters our studio created nearly a decade ago continue to reach new and old fans alike floors us every day. We know a lot of you have been revisiting the story that started it all with The Last of Us Part I on PlayStation 5 console, and we realize many of you have been excited to jump in – some for the first time – when Part I hits PC.
And so we want to make sure that The Last of Us Part I PC debut is in the best shape possible. These additional few weeks will allow us to ensure this version of The Last of Us lives up to your, and our, standards. We are so excited to bring The Last of Us Part I to a new platform, reaching new and returning players with Joel and Ellie's unforgettable story of survival, and we hope that you'll continue to look forward to its PC release on March 28. The Naughty Dog team appreciates your support and enthusiasm, and we look forward to sharing more about The Last of Us Part I PC version soon.
Endure and Survive, Naughty Dog

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
The finally released the PC system requirements and recommendations:
Over on Blues they're noting that there's an "Iron Galaxy" credit on the official Playstation page, suggesting they're involved with the port. They've noted Iron Galaxy has a not-great history with this, naming Batman Arkham Knight and the Uncharted Collection as being problematic. I can't comment on the latter, but I do remember Arkham Knight being an issue when it was first released.MINIMUM:

They're also the company that ported Fallout 4 and Skyrim to VR. Those games are two of the worst big-name VR games I've ever seen, right after Borderlands 2 VR (although they can both be good with careful modding.)
They're also the ones 'remastering' Metroid Prime for the Switch (although they did the Skyrim and Diablo 3 Switch ports, which were, based on a quick search, well-received.)
So who knows.

Anyone doing this? After just finishing the show, I’m a little on the fence, especially since for this kind of game I’m more of a “story gamer” than I am into the other aspects…

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
I'm going to pick it up during the summer sale - when I have more time to dedicate. If it was released before the show I would have likely picked it up and blasted through it, but now that the show is over, I'm not feeling as motivated to experience it as a video game.
Also, there are currently "mixed" reviews regarding the port and performance. Need to see how that shakes out too.
EDIT: Kinda weird that there were no reviews ahead of the release?

same. It's sitting in my cart for 17% off while I know the game is great (played it on the ps3, I'm reserved due to not knowing how it's going to perform on the PC. Plus if I wait it will be cheaper and since i'm already planning on double dipping, might as well wait. Thanks OO

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
Oof. It's not looking good.
The new PC port for The Last of Us Part 1 is plagued with problems, even for those with pretty beastly computers. The Steam version of the game has "Mostly negative" reviews with many noting frequent crashes, low frame rates, excessively long loading times, and more. Some even deemed The Last of Us Part 1 unplayable in its current state.

Yeah, same. It's been about ten years wait already, it can probably take another six months to get patched up. And by then it'll be half price, too.

Same here. My backlog is so big that unless a game is a must play and in good shape upon release, I’ll wait.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
They are giving this away free with a lot of video cards right now, which is how I got my copy. Waiting for the shaders to load, and it's taking a minute (20 so far, and not even halfway).
Steam reviews are pretty brutal (54%)...I just wanted to try a new title to see what I have been missing for so many years - something recent with lots of eye candy. If it's as bad as people say, I'll wait.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
I pre-purchased it and, when it became available to play (late March), was dismayed to see that so many people were unable to play it. I waited about a week (two weeks?) then fired it up. The shaders took a long time to load but once they were done the game ran fine for me.
I really liked it.
Now I'm just trying to decide whether I'll buy the dvd of the tv series.

My first game crashed about 30m in, but man was it gorgeous and engaging while it lasted.
To be fair, I also bumped things up from default/recommended (I assume it assessed my system and set things accordingly though I never saw a message indicating that).
I’m going to turn off ray-tracing completely and see if that helps stabilize.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
Huge patch out today, and thankfully they fixed the absurd shader loading time on AMD (I assume): "which includes a fix for “longer than expected shader compilation time” in The Last of Us Part I"
"This update primarily focuses on performance improvements, reduced shader building times, and texture fidelity on Low and Medium presets"

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
So...
I picked this up over one of the Fall sales a few weeks ago, really eager to experience the story but in game form (I'd never played the original, but loved the HBO show).
Maybe this is controversial, but...I'm not really enjoying it. Sure, the story is great, but the game play feels...dated? Maybe that's not right. It just feels, "meh". It's not a shooter or a sneaker or even an action game, imho. Sure, you're doing all those things, but the system feels a bit clunky. Looks great, runs great but it just feels not fun (to me). It reminds me a bit of Gods of War another game I really wanted to play but lost interest after a few hours. Maybe it's the escort element - where I'm always doing something to help someone to a ledge or to grab a ladder or to fit under something.
I guess overall I'm feeling letdown as I thought the TV adaptation was amazing. I guess I didn't know what to expect for the game but it's been decidedly meh, which I'm finding surprising.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
Could it be due to its obvious console origin? What you describe sounds like me describing every PC game I've played with consolitis. It definitely does feel like I should be using a controller, but I was enjoying it (before I got distrac....SQUIRREL!!). Your bumping this thread reminds me I need to go back and finish. Maybe I should try to play with controller. I do very much get the janky control vibe that I think you're describing...but again, I get that a LOT these days with most titles that come over from console.Smoove_B wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 8:54 pm So...

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
Maybe? But I am playing with a controller on PC because I am a Daywalker, able to comfortably use an Xbox360 controller to play PC games.
So it's not the control method that's an issue for me, but the actual design or game play that feels janky. Now, if that is because of console design, I guess that's another story. I still want to say it feels dated, but that's not quite right. I guess in some ways it feels like I'm playing an old LucasArts 2D adventure game but this is actually in 3D and looks like a modern game. That's not a perfect example, but that's kinda how it feels (to me).
Again, I think I'm just really disappointed as my expectations were sky-high.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
The story is amazing, but this may be a case of ‘best enjoyed on console’ in terms of actual gameplay.
It’s also a 10 year old game, so that could have something to do with it.
I’m aware it has been remastered and ported, but it still could have some of the same underlying dated code creating the feeling of jank.

Yeah I think it's probably the age of the gameplay. I remember reading a lot of the reviews which said the same thing. Good story, great graphics, but 10 year old gameplay.Carpet_pissr wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 10:25 am The story is amazing, but this may be a case of ‘best enjoyed on console’ in terms of actual gameplay.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
I was jonesing to play this before it came out on PC, so I rescued my son's PS4 from the garage and I'm glad I did. I would recommend you get a controller for your PC.
I enjoyed the exploration, puzzles and setting up ambushes plus the weapon and other upgrades. The story was bittersweet, but at least there was some sweet to go with the bitter. The second game was just bitter dregs. If I could go back and tell myself I would say play the first one, and if you must know what happens, read a synopsis.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
Again, I am already using one. I think I've been playing games on my PC with an Xbox360 controller since 2007 or 2008; I am quite comfortable with using one and actually prefer it for many games. Normally this kind of game feels great for me with a console controller (3rd person), but there's something else going on here that isn't completely related to the input device.

Re: [PC] The Last of Us Part 1
And yet it's something that NaughtyDog is keen on remastering again and again. Seriously, the first game received what felt like 2 remasters and incoming remake within the span of 5 years. With Uncharted having ended, it makes me wonder if they have a new IP up their sleeves, because at this point they really need it.Scraper wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:44 pmYeah I think it's probably the age of the gameplay.
