Artists wanted
We've already had one person submit some stuff (thanks!) now's a good time for anyone to submit something. So, if you know an artist, and want to put them in contact with us, that would be super. Or you are an artist, and want to submit something, that would be super.
Sample sketches are nice. Sample sketches working with either the OctopusOverlords or Brutesquad theme (or both!) would be even better perhaps.
Direct all contact to me at cgpeace@bellsouth.net

Anyway I made a nice OO out of mashed potatoes but it didn't scan well.
Straight Swords = Slashing
Curved Swords = Stabbing

Post them if you want public feedback and a chance to iterate, email them (email in top post) if you'd rather avoid that mess.hitbyambulance wrote:ok, i have some ideas for logo-styles... and with them, colorschemes... will post sketches tomorrow, maybe?
Also, note that we don't *know* our new home's URL yet, although all signs point to a toe-to-toe battle royale between TheBruteSquad.com and OctopusOverlords.com . Tailor artwork accordingly.

All swords with a point are for stabbing. All swords with an edge are for slashing. Most have both, most do both quite well. Straight swords slash with more power - good if you need to cut through something - good against armor. Curved swords create a deeper, longer slash - good against flesh.
If I were and Octopus Overlord, however, I would have four of each.

I wish I was skilled enough to do art, but instead I will post a picture of a really pissed-off octopus:

I *LOVE* that page, Ruby. Some hilarious stuff there. You should link it (with a warning for the easily offended) in an EBG thread.

Well I can see that my work of brilliance has driven off all potential competition. Just as well, since few living beings have the paint skillz to top that.
I would be willing to sell this work of art to the website benefactors for a modest fee. My lawyers will contact you. Whether you like it or not.

EngineNo9 - that's my new wallpaper. Thank you.
And in banks across the world
Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Jews
And every other race, creed, colour, tint or hue
Get down on their knees and pray
The raccoon and the groundhog neatly
Make up bags of change
But the monkey in the corner
Well he's slowly drifting out of range

In 1200 years, after the 7th great war, when civilization has begun to raise up from the ashes scientists will recover a tiny stretch of blocks on the one computer that somehow managed to survive the cataclysm. Searching for some clues to their forgotten past, some indication of what happened they will find only this picture. They won't share the information with the public, it is to horrible for the masses to handle. Instead the elite will keep their secret and keep close watch on the sea.EngineNo9 wrote:I think I really captured the essence of both sides of this conflict as well as expressing the eternal struggle that defines our humanity.

I'm sorry, Velvet Elvis, that's pretty cool, but I swear, the first thing I thought of looking at that picture was sperm. Maybe I just have sperm on my mind or something.

That's quite alright. I'm painfully aware of my lack of talent. Thrity minutes to kill and a couple of beers inspried me to throw something together.Eel Snave wrote:I'm sorry, Velvet Elvis, that's pretty cool, but I swear, the first thing I thought of looking at that picture was sperm. Edited to add: I just glanced at EngineNo9's entry again. My God, that is a comedic masterpiece.

Whew. After I reread my post, I realized it looked snotty. I'm glad it wasn't taken that way.
And in case you viewed it as such, here's what I have to say about that:

Almost-progress report: There are some real-world friends and professionals (and in some cases, both) from which we're waiting to receive submissions. At some point we're pretty likely to contact some of the artists we've received stuff from with requested tweaks or additional works in similar veins. Once we're pretty sure we've got everything we're going to get, we'll make some decisions and stuff'll start to change art-wise around here.
Some of the considerations for the works include the tone they convey, their applicability for the forums (color schemes), how they'd work as a logo, banner, snippets for reviews (tentacles up or down), etc. We've seen some seriously sweet stuff so far, but nothing that is a definite slam-dunk don't-bother-to-receive-anything-else-because-we've-got-a-guaranteed-bonafide-winner material yet. If you've been thinking about doing something, or if you've got something half-way finished, it's likely time to start wrapping up your creative process and think about sending it to the address in the top-post of this thread.
And if you want to bounce ideas off the forum as a whole before you make a submission, (YOU'D BETTER HAVE THICK RUBBERY SUCTION-CUPPY SKIN) feel free to do so in a separate Metaforum post. I'd very much understand why folks'd want to keep their creative ideas under their own hats, however, before a submission. Anything is fine by us, however; we're just interested in getting the best work for the site.
