Whither OO in 2005?
So where's the site headed for the new year? More forums, a front page, game reviews maybe? Or could it be a lonely gamers personals site and some kinky porn? Enquiring minds want to know.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

There should be something significant announced before January is out. Two things have taken more time than I'd have liked - the CMS decision and December (and part of that was my fault).
There is a possibility we will be launching with a certain CMS, but having one constructed to eventaully replace what we launch with. In that case, it would mean a front page (yay!) but a limited one (shucks), as we haven't been able to find a CMS that can do everything we need. By limited, I mean don't expect to see the site launch with things like the Game Guide and Game Rankings modules (those were mostly to entirely going to be custom jobs anyway), and we might have to put certain intriguing but still not fully planned ideas like the Game Diaries farther onto the back burner.
A custom CMS is no small undertaking (but probably the best in the long run; the other big choice would be "launch with something and just mod it as we go", but that will be a significant undertaking as well). If we do require help with the implementation of that project, we would post here about it (natch).

What's CMS the only CMS I can think of is Central Middle School although it also reminds me of some sort of Medical System but that might be because I am seeing CNS for Central Nervous System and just thinking of the word medical instead Medical and that would make sense to be me because I know next to nothing about medicine and why would you tie medicine to a website about gaming anyway that seems like a silly thing to do unless you are doc darm or one of our other resident doctors or is that intern doctors or should I just call them practitioners so as not to confuse terms...

You guys should talk to some friends of mine about a CMS system, they've created one for this website: www.diehardgamer.com and I'm sure they would license it out.
I used to write for them and the CMS system was actually really good, I've written for a lot of sites and this was by far the easiest system to use for posting articles and so on.
If your interested send a PM and i'll reply with contact info.

To be somewhat productive - I'm looking forward to the bits and pieces of information you guys have released about what the site itself is going to involve and will cover.

Well, whatever you guys decide to do, don't do anything that would cause my workplace to block this site. They have now blocked every PC gaming review site there is.... Please leave me my OO.

If the site starts getting blocked by all the work filters I may look into setting up another non-blocked server and proxy OO through it. If there is enough demand, which I suspect there will beHead wrote:Well, whatever you guys decide to do, don't do anything that would cause my workplace to block this site. I second the motion. I can understand workplaces filtering out porn and KKK sites and such, but a place to _read_ about games? That's just fascist. Unfortunately my company filters out webproxies as well as game sites, so I'm out of luck if OO gets high enough profile to be categorized a "Game Site" like GG was, even if you do do the proxy thing. Unless I get a special "in" with someone who works in IT and gives me the magic "get past WebSense" secret password.Head wrote:Well, whatever you guys decide to do, don't do anything that would cause my workplace to block this site. I don't think their proxy sniffers would detect this one. It would be a backend site. Just take a server that isn't submitted to search engines and proxy this site. On the backend. You wouln't be able to get to anything but the site. You would just point your brwser to a certain IP and wala there is the sitePapageno wrote:I second the motion. If need be I could move the IP around every now and then. I have a lot of them in different locations. You can't shut down the voice of the Overlords
